This trail has several entry points. Wide trail to walk, jog, stroll, or ride your bike. Very well maintained. Some sections even allow horses. Great place to exercise .

Although the trail has existed in the Saco-Old Orchard Beach-Scarborough area for a couple of years now, my first experience with the trail occurred just recently. It's free of motorized vehicles and the compacted gravel surface is adequate. The scenery along the trail, especially along the Scarborough Marsh, is spectacular with all sorts of birds and other wildlife. My only minor complaints would be some erosion of gravel on the few hills, which makes bicycling a bit "hairy," and that some walkers will crowd the entire width of the trail, forcing one to dismount as they would not keep to one side of the trail.

My wife and I who are average bike riders Have ridden the trail on our vacation from Wells to Biddeford in 2013 and just the other day rode from Bug Point in Portland all the way to the marsh in Scarborough. We only had five miles to go and we would have made it to the far side of Old Orchard Beach! Glad we turned around when we did, as we had ridden over 25 miles! The entire trail system is outstanding for everyone from families to individuals. You will pass all sorts of people using for walking, running and biking. Anyone with young children, I would pay attention to the routes through high traffic areas. While all are safe routes with cross walks and lights, it can be busy. Anyone who watched their children should be fine. This years ride from Bug Point in Portland was excellent. (Free parking) We started out all but in the ocean watching ships and boats going in and out of the bay. The trail is paved and goes in and out of businesses as well as residential neighborhoods and through the woods. I suggest to those who do not ride regularly or with young children to turn around at the large recreational facility, which is where the paved trail ends. From there it goes on to public roads for a few miles and eventually back on to the off road section through the Scarborough marsh and to OOB.2013 was also a great ride, but not a scenic. All flat, leaving from a school near Wells.Everyone remember that the coast of Maine is flat. The "hills" along this trail are minimal. There are placed to rent bikes along the trail if you can't bring your own.

Great for walking, running, bike riding and sight seeing. There are 1/4 mile markers. Very flat but bring walking sneakers.

Our family rode the trail in the Scarborough, Saco, and Old Orchard Beach areas. I loved that the trail was flat and well-packed. We rode on a Friday midday, and the trail was well-used during that time. Even so, it was not crowded. We went on a warm day, but the trail is shaded and cool on the bike. Wish we had something like that here where I live. I'd use it every day!

Trail is well kept and level, but in certain spots the mosquitos try to carry you off into the woods. That being said I enjoyed a 5 mile jaunt from Saco towards OOB and I would recommend this trail to everyone. I think the next time I'll cycle it to give them skeeters a run for their money

I hadn't been on the trail in several years. (the Eastern Trail uses the historic Eastern Railroadcorridor and goes from Kittery to S Portland. My walk was in the NE section of the trail) I parked in lot off the Pine Point Rd and headed NE (vs toward Old Orchard Beach) The trail in this area goes across part of the Scarborough Marsh (see reviews for Audubon site at the marsh) Nice wide wooden bridge over the Scarborough River provides good viewing spot/birding including herons, egrets, osprey, ducks, loons. It was Friday afternoon and the parking lot was nearly full: birders, families walking. Many joggers, bikers, some who likely had come from the more southern section of the trail. Occasional benches gives rest options. Dog owners very respectful-all pooches I encountered were on leashes (and I saw few 'land mines' so dog owners seem to be doing the scoop job, too!) I'm writing that you could spend 1-2 hours here but easily less than that or longer-depending on how far you want to walk/bike/jog!
