These folks know Craft Brewing. Try the Full Nelson. Exotic hops whirlpool hopped to fully impart a mango impression upon the palate. Interesting coffee, cinnamon, bacon Porter. Real Maine cucumber ale. Or would you prefer one with rosemary tones? Another favorite was called Space Gose. Very floral yet sweet and sour at the same time. This is a brewery and tasting room. With wine barrels converted from their original task to very comfortable chairs, benches and bar stools. I would ask one of the owners, Chris, what new Ale's he's dreaming up. He won't dissapoint. And will be more than happy to talk to you about his recipes.

Barreled Souls Brewing opened in July, with a goal to make innovative beers using a unique process. They are taking repurposed oak barrels used to age bourbon, and their beer is fermented in those barrels with a variation of a Burton Union system recapturing the yeast. The results have been a huge success, with a continuously changing list of up to twelve beers on tap.Another feature of Barreled Souls is their enormous tasting room, with a bar about twenty feet long and additional seating for thirty people in chairs also made from oak barrels by local craftsmen. The room really has the feel of a prohibition era speakeasy, but with a big screen TV and a shuffleboard table.I recommend trying the Munro, a strong Scotch ale or the Half Nelson, a session IPA using Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand, but they also make stouts, pale ales and a Gose with Maine sea salt. There is a beer for every taste, so it's well worth the trip!

We stopped in here the other day to try it out. They have a great selection. My mother in law who doesn't like beer even liked one - the Space Gose. Love the potluck idea for Sundays. Great place to watch the game!

It’s tempting to try to keep this new brewery and tasting room our secret, but it’s just too good not to spread the word. Barreled Souls currently has 8 beers on tap (11 counting the various flavors of its American Pale Ale). My husband is a die-hard beer lover, while I prefer wine and only occasionally get a yen for a beer. Well, that’s changed now – I loved three of the beers on offer, while my husband was extremely enthusiastic about three of them, as well – with one overlapping (the Space Gose). It’s easy to make up your own sampler and try them all, as 4 ounce portions of most of the brews are $1.50. Eight and fourteen ounce servings are also available, as are growlers. Detailed information on each beer is available on a card that you’ll be given, and Jenna, our friendly and knowledgeable bartender, gave us some excellent guidance. Also, while the beer here is fermented in barrels, we found it didn’t have the oaky taste we had anticipated. We loved the clean, fresh tastes – and such variety – light, fruit-infused beers to deep, rich stouts. As veterans of the Maine Beer Trail, we’ve been to most of the brewery tasting rooms in Maine and found this one to be one of the most appealing ones we’ve seen. It has a cool, relaxed, inviting style. Repurposed wood is seen on the bar, the furniture, the taps. There is seating at the bar, and there are several seating areas with tables and chairs made from old barrels, as well as comfortable bench seating along the wall. And be sure to check out the neat Maine map near the entrance. The ochre-colored walls have a lot of eye appeal. The background music is just what you want to hear while you’re enjoying a beer, and is at just the right volume level. There is even a tabletop shuffleboard game and cribbage boards for further entertainment.Barreled Souls is currently open various hours in the afternoon every day except Monday and Tuesday; the Facebook page gives specifics. Check them out soon!

Can't say enough good. Staff is top shelf. Beers are very good. Stand up to the best in Maine even after only a month. Cool vibe. Great beers.
