This is a must see while in the area. It's easy to find and a quick stop! How amazing that he was over 8 foot, 11 inches tall and how sad that he only lived to be 22.

This is a really amazing statue and hard to believe. Standing next to this monument makes everyone feel really small. Just try sitting in his chair! It's overwhelming to imagine how difficult it must have been for him to get around. The history museum across the street is also really interesting.

I may be almost 6'3 and am considered to be taller than most though I looked tiny compared this man. I can only imagine the troubles he went though getting clothes made and going out in public. A must stop when visiting the area!!

This place is great, and wonderfully accessible as far as monuments go. The statue is life-size, so you really get to appreciate just how tall the man was...the placards give great information, and the spot is serene, and nicely situated. if you're in the area, definitely stop by and take your picture with the Gentle Giant, or in his replica chair!

As a college health care provider, I often alerted students with huge blisters that The Alton Giant had died from neglected blisters! So his feet fascinated me from my first visit, long ago.I especially like that anyone can walk up to the statue, have their picture taken next to him and have a real idea of his size. This is such an easy visit, just get out of your car or walk down from the train station, no doors, no fees, only Robert Wadlow. More of his history is found across the street in the museum, including pictures of him towering over his family and schoolmates from a tiny age. Today, his rapid growth would have been treated and his disability because of his unwieldy proportions would have been avoided. But he is someone who certainly deserves to be called the "Gentle Giant of Alton, IL.

This is very easy to find and also has a statue of a chair custom made for him. It was very funny to see my husband of 6'2" only come up to the elbow on the statue and his large foot dwarf next to the one of the statue. Known as the Gentle Giant Robert Ludlow is a heartwarming piece of history.

This is a very nice tribute to Robert Wadlo. It is amazing how tall he seems when standing next to this statue and he is not standing upright! The setting is beautiful and peaceful and worth seeing. If you have time go to the museum in downtown Alton to see his shoes, ring, desk and a photo cutout where you will get the complete idea as to how tall he was compared to the average American man. Actually, my husband is 6 foot 5 which is fairly tall and Robert is huge compared to him.

The statue of Robert Wadlow was beautiful. A nice tribute to the man. Good place to read about him and take pics

If you are in the area of Alton, take a detour and check out the Robert Pershing Wadlow statue on College Avenue. It's located across the street from the Southern Illinois University - Alton campus in a nicely done small park, which also includes a scale replica of a chair built especially for him. There is a small plaque near his statue but not much else. However, it is worth seeing if you are in the area just to see how tall 8'11" really is.For comparison, the person standing next to him is 6'4".

Not something you would drive 50 miles out of the way to see but if your in the area or on a road trip this is a must. You can stand beside a statue of the worlds tallest man and a replica of his chair. Interesting to say the least. Set in a quaint little town outside of Alton Illinois. It's located on the court square of Alton. Free parking in addition to free to see the exhibit.

Stand beside the bronze statue and sit in the chair of the world's tallest man in Alton IL. Makes you feel small.

Easy free parking and fun for the kids to measure themselves standing next to Robert Wadlow's statue. There is also a replica of a chair that a furniture company made for hi. Because he could not comfortably sit in a normal chair. Beware of the metal chair, though. It gets hot in the sun! Sit at our own risk!A fun way to kill an hour with the kids and learn something, too!

We took approximately 30 minutes out of the way on our trip to visit this site. It was well worth the time. It is hard to visualize the size of this man until you stand next to his statute. Only then do you realize how tall this young man was. Amazing feeling.

It's true, he was tall. My Mother says everyone else had to hurry between classes so he could get to class on time..his feet were so big he had to go up stairs sideways! Life size statue.

This life-size statue is placed in a small park with street parking just steps away. It was amazing see how tall he was - the numbers (8'11") sound huge, but nothing like actually seeing a life-size replica. If you are in Alton it is worth a quick visit.
