My husband and I go to casinos wherever we travel, and the Argosy was a nice place to spend a few hours. Not too crowded and some old and some new machines. I would go there again, as it's always nice to leave with more than you started with.

Stopped in for the Valentines buffet. I like the feel of the casino, it does have a unique feel among the StL casinos. However, getting on a table game was difficult. They had roughly half of them open, but the blackjack and craps tables were full. They also had Mississippi Stud and 3 card poker, which didn't interest me. They have a ton of slot machines. The slots seemed kinda tight from my limited play, maybe I just had a bad run of luck. The buffet was underwhelming. For $25 I expected better. They only had one bar open in the casino, which was right near the entrance. This seemed odd for a Saturday. Not a lot of wait staff either, I heard a cocktail waitress once while I was there. If you want a drink, odds are you have to hike back to the entrance. They did have a nice selection of draft beer.

This is a great casino in my opinion. I don't feel like I'm being kept "artificially awake" with lots of lights like a lot of other casinos. So yes, it is a bit on the "dark side." But that's part of the charm. It's a Mississippi riverboat--this isn't Vegas! I like the down-to-earth feel of the place. Dealers are friendly. It just feels like it belongs in the Alton-Riverbed area. I wouldn't change a single thing about the place. If you like bright lights, by all means search elsewhere. But the min bets at the tables are low and that's always a plus for me.

This use to be an actual boat that left the dock, so it is one of the smaller casino in the St. Louis area. It is now a smoke free casino which is real nice. It is 2 levels and in some places it does feel a little cramped. It really could use a fresh coat of paint and updating.

Argosy Casino is different from the other 5 casinos in the greater St. Louis (MO) area. It is smaller, non-flashy, comfortable, and friendly. It is a smoke-free establishment, with designated outdoor smoking areas. There is ample parking, and shuttle or valet service, but no garage. Sections of the casino are closed on weekdays. There is a restaurant, a buffet, and a snack bar. A nice touch is the inclusion of self-serve hot chocolate along with coffee and soft drinks. There is a nice variety of slots, in the various denominations, and a few tables. Comps are more generous than at some of the other local casinos. The staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful. There are regular promotions and somewhat regular entertainment. This is a retired riverboat with seating available on the decks, providing excellent views of the Mississippi River. The Argosy offers a nice change-of-pace to the larger, flashier & smokier St. Louis casinos.

Last weekend on the way to a Cardinal game we stopped by the Argosy to do a little gambling. We had a very nice time loosing our allotted money. Very easy to get to and easy access parking.Staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. Lots of pros and only one con. We LOST our allotted money.( which was expected) lol All in all we had a great time.

The Casino was ok but I did not like the sounds from the motors under my feet as well as the vibrations. My husband wanted to go but the ramp into boat is very steep depending on water level.

The Argosy was a nice suprise. It looks somewhat run-down on the outside, as it used to be the Alton Belle, a traveling boat. The inside was nicely renovated and was smoke-free - very appreciated! They provide free soda/coffee/hot chocolate, which is a great bonus as many casinos in our area have removed these items. The casino is on one floor and is somewhat small, since it's restricted to the size of a riverboat. It was a pleasant atmosphere and we had a good time. I'm a $20 and leave gambler, so I didn't win anything but kept myself busy for an hour or so. It's nice late-night fun when there isn't much else open.

I am not a big gambler. I usually gamble $20 so they never make much money from me. I like to play the slots once in a while and this is the only smoke free place. Missouri allows smoking and I cannot stand the smoke.

Not bad. Clean, and smoke free. Did not try the food. Seems to be laid out well. We only stayed in there for an hour or so. Played the slots..and lost as usual. The drink hostess was very eager to bring drinks and thats a good thing.

We visited the casino on a recent trip to the area. It had a ton of slot machines and one or two of each card game. We were there on a week day night and found it to be NOT crowded which was nice, but there were really no people there to socialize with either. We played slots for about 30 minutes, played blackjack for about an hour or so and then were bored and left. I was not impressed with the card gaming section, because, as I said, there were not many of each, and even though they weren't crowded, they weren't much fun either. We enjoyed it, but may try one of the other casinos in the area if we decide to gamble again.

The crab leg buffet is more than worth the wait in line. However if you are looking for a vegas style casino... I would consider going to one of the other casinos located locally. There are only a few tables and the rest is three floors of slot machines. One plus is it in Illinois so little if any smoking...

We went to the casino on a weeknight right after having Fast Eddie's for dinner. It is a small casino, but it is a boat, so that is to be expected. It was moderately busy considering it was a weeknight. They have 3 floors of gaming, with the table games on the second floor. They had all of the standards: Roulette, Blackjack, Craps, and Mississippi Stud. All of the table games were $5, which was pretty cool. Pretty decent selection of slot machines, from pennys on up. We were a little disappointed that they didn't have any nickel video poker, that's something we usually look for. The payout on the video poker they had was pretty good though...8 for full house and 6 for flush. We managed to win a little bit on that, so that's always a plus. Complimentary/self-serve soda fountain on the first floor was another plus. The casino and Fast Eddie's (separate review) were really cool. If you're going to drive all the way up to Alton, you really need to do both to make the evening complete. We will definitely be back.

The casino is a small and dark, with very limited service. There were very few people at the casino, so most table games were not open. The video poker had lower pay tables then the casinos across the river in Missouri. The Captains restaurant was a nice surprise, excellent supper.

Nice boat not real crowded. Alot of older people. Not alot ofvariety of slots and when we were there, only 2 card gamesgoing on. Mississippi stud and three card poker. Black jackand roulette was not busy. We were surprised for a Sundayafternoon that there was not more going on.
