christyml

VGDreamin

TennesseeTravelQueen

After seeing this 5 years ago- I had to come back- it makes me calm watching the sunset- and felt very special with my sweetheart- the street entertainers are awesome! A MUST SEE!

Hung out here to watch the sunset with everyone else. Lots of vendors and street performers. We had fun watching everyone set up. The street performers were fun to watch. We got our spot to watch the sunset but the clouds moved in. We are used to seeing spectacular sunsets on Lake Ontario and knew once the clouds came in there would be no spectacular sunset so we left. I'm sure it would have been a nice one. But we had fun even without seeing it. I wish there some benches around to sit on. There are low cement walls. Most areas are in full sun so it can be a bit hot.

Can you imagine that the Sunset Celebrations that take place here every night (weather permitting, of course) have been a daily event since the 1960's ?The place is teeming with tourists and locals, everyone here to have a good time.Come early around 5.30 PM to get a good seat, and stay for the two hour duration of the program till the magnificent Sun sets. The performers are very entertaining. There are fire performers, jugglers, tight rope walkers, unicycle artists, musicians, performing pigs, etc. There are vendor carts where you can buy snacks and even alcoholic drinks. You can also buy souvenirs and clothes. We had a couple of annoying and inconsiderate guys in front of us holding up their I Pads video-taping the Sunset, blocking everyone's view behind them, and preventing people from taking their own photographs. There was no place to move away, since the place was very crowded. We watched the Sunset through their devices. The Square is a fun meeting place for all the Road Tours, the Shipwreck Museum, and the Aquarium. Mel Fisher's Museum and the Audubon House are right across the Street.. We came back the next day to see the Statues of the prominent people in Key West and the Memorial for the Veterans.A place worth coming to just to see the performers and the Sunset. It gets pretty crazy, but there is nothing not to like about it.Do not forget to wear bug spray if you are prone to being bitten by the little critters.

Mallory square is where everyone goes on Key West for the sunset. There are a lot of food and craft vendors as well as street performers. If you get there early enough, you can get a great spot to watch the sunset. If it is not sunset hours, the square is pretty empty, and is nice for strolling on the water. It is at the north end of Duval St, and can be a nice break from that rowdiness. Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely beautiful sunset - worth the walk. We didn't go for the carnival atmosphere, but some would get a kick out of it.

Saveling

Sunsets, entertainers, family friendly, sail boats going by, plenty of stalls and bars. Good place to be for the hour before sunset and other times too.

This was a very fun area to hang out and watch the sunset. We weren't much for the carnival type atmosphere but there's some bars and restaurants farther down by the Westin that were the best place to see the sunset and order drinks and food

Thanks to Jon Breakfield's 2 travelogue books about his time in Key West with his wife. Thourghly enjoyed all the goings on at Mallory square for the sunset ceremony with buskers and artisans but the best part was meeting one of the original Key West sunset organizers Popcorn Joe!

We were shopped out so didn't do any shopping. Instead we just relaxed and waited for sunset. Somehow the birds knew to fly off just as the sun was setting and the image was awesome - lots of birds in the sky, palm trees and the setting sun! There weren't many entertainers out when we were there and that was fine. We then headed for the bus and back to our resort.
