My husband and I were visiting Amarillo for the weekend to celebrate his Birthday. As a surprise, I brought him to the this golf course to play since he has become really fond of this sport. We arrived to the course and stopped at the front office to pay for the game and purchase a few other things we needed. The young man at the front was very nice and gave us good information about the courses since it was our first time there. We paid to play 9 holes and rented a golf cart, we got the keys and walked out to our golf cart and drove to Hole 1. As soon as we got to Hole 1, before we even got off the cart, an older gentleman approached us in his golf cart. The gentleman proceeded to ask to see our receipt to make sure we had already paid for the game. We told the gentleman that we had just thrown out the receipt, which my husband hates carrying receipts in his pocket so as soon as we passed a trash can, he threw it in there. We told the gentleman that if he wanted, we could try to get the receipt back for him and he said yes because he "needed" to see it. My husband and I drove back to the front desk and had the young man that charged us for the game, come outside and explain to this man that we had already paid for the game. The young man walked outside with us and told the gentleman in the golf cart that we had already paid for all our stuff. Even after the young man told him we had paid, he STILL was demanding to see the receipt, which to me was very rude of him! We were paying customers and this man was treating us as if we were thieves, so we didn't appreciate that very much. The gentleman in the golf cart proceeds to tell us that "it's his job to check the receipts to make sure that customers have paid to play, so he's just doing his job", which is fine and I understand that you need to do your job, but there is no need to sit there and interrogate us after one of the golf course employees verified that we had already paid him for the game. Anyway, after that whole ordeal, we started golfing and we had a great time! We played on the Mustang course and my husband loved it! The greens are beautiful and very well kept, and we enjoyed playing somewhere out of our normal golf course. If you like golfing and are in Amarillo, I would definitely recommend coming out to Ross Rogers Golf Course and giving it a try. Hopefully next time we're in town, we'll come back to try the Wildhorse course...and next time we'll make sure to keep the receipt until AFTER we're done with the game! :)

Have been playing this golf course for over 25 years. I love the layout and they have great greens. Great putting green too! They have a few big tournaments a year, one being the Ross Rodgers Partnership. It is a good event and have many flights to play in.

Can't believe this is a municipal course, it's very nice. Loved seeing the geese out there. Only wished daughter had played a little bit better but all in all a day out on the course is better than being in school she says.

RR features 36 beautiful holes of golf in an established location. The complex has been here a long time, but both courses have been completely redone. Wildhorse (DA Weibring design) replaced the old West course about 10 years ago, and the new Mustang course opened this year. The courses have established trees and a nice natural setting with more terrain than most other area courses. Both courses are in remarkable shape, especially considering the level of play they receive. These are easily among the best economy courses in the state (as rated by the Dallas Morning News) and well worth the visit. Not Pinehurst or Augusta...but much better than average for public play, especially in West Texas.

Ross Rogers Golf Course is well worth a short side trip off I40 when going through Amarillo. Well maintained, excellent design (D.A. Weibring). Fast greens with variety of challenging hole locations. Bluegrass rough which can eat balls.

My wife and I did this trip 8 months ago. There is a lot history here, but I agree with most of the other comments, time has moved forward and Route 66 has stood still. On the bright side, not everyone in thei great country can say they have been down this highway, but we can!

VERY well kept course... and I haven't even played the NEW course yet!!!The old course is great fun and a good challenge but not overly difficult either... Play well and you will be rewarded.

Ross Rogers’ Wild Horse golf course is one of the most lush municipal golf courses we’ve played. The grass was thick and green, in wonderful condition even for spring. It has rolling fairways, many lined with a row of mature trees, and challenging, undulating greens. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It is well worth playing there
