Outstanding couples massage. We were drive this past weekend from Dallas to San Antonio. And needs to relax for a bit. Wife found this day spa listed on smart phone. Called and made reservation for a couples message. From the time we walked in and sat down waiting for our appointment the staff was very helpful and pleasant and friendly. Though the information sheet was a bit long you will get through it. But do remember to bring glasses in if you need them for reading as I do.

I recently visited Gruene with a group of friends. Two in our group booked massages. We called back later, asking if they could accommodate all seven in our group in some way. They were great! Our call was after normal business hours, but they contacted us right back. We had two with full massage and five with chair massage and one also had a polish change. These folks were very pleasant. The place is clean and fresh. They have a great front porch with rocking chairs. It was so relaxing. Frances, our chair massage guy, was great. He was so friendly and his massage was GREAT! If you are going to Gruene, you should check this place out! Feels great to relax at the end of a day of shopping and wine tasting!!!

My husband and I enjoyed a couple's massage at the Gruene Day Spa on our way home from our little getaway. It was nice...nothing spectacular, but relaxing and nice.

Girls spa day gone wrong due to lack of organization and professionalism with the ladies at Gruene Day Spa :( I went with my mother and sister in law and combined we got 2 massages, 2 pedicures, 3 manicures, 1 bikini wax, and one facial. Not a single one of those treatments went well. There were only 3 women working that morning (we scheduled a week in advance) and so they kept having to switch between us, which ended up leaving at least one of us sitting around doing nothing while we waited. They crammed us ALL in the back room together on three tables. While I got my massage, my mother in law laid on the table and got her pedicure while my sister in law got her facial. Not the most relaxing noises to be hearing while you get a massage...The entire course of the day went about like that, disorganization, unprofessional, awkward.- Massages: not bad but not professional. It was basically just like someone giving your body a rub down. No special techniques and it didn't seem like she knew what to do.- Bikini Wax: she heated the wax way too hot and I had to wait alone in the room for 20 minutes while it cooled. Once it was over there were a ton of stray hairs left over that she attempted to pluck with tweezers...- Manicures: only one coat on mine and some of them she didn't even cover the whole nail! My mother in law's french manicure was uneven and thick and gloppy. Smudged almost immediately.Overall it was a terrible experience. Mainly because of the lack of professionalism, no one seemed to have a plan or know what they were doing! Very disappointing and felt like a complete waste of money.

My friend and I visited together and had never done a day spa before...always a resort spa. We were unsure, but were delightfully pleased with the excellent massages, quiet room, respectful staff, and the simultaneous pedicure and facial, both of which were excellent. We were greeted warmly, shown to the room and treated to massages, pedicure and facial. We would return when next in Wimberly. The drive over was worth it as was the lunch at the River House Tea Room next door.

My husband and I went to Gruene Day Spa while on a weekender to Gruene. We stayed at The Gruene Mansion Inn, which was wonderful. Gruene is small so we saw most everything the first day. We noticed that our B&B had brochures for the spa and decided to get one of their "couples" massages. We called ahead and booked an appointment. The receptionist seemed a little confused when we called. We arrived at the time she told us to so we could fill out a form. Then we sat and sat and sat well beyond our appointment time. Finally, 20 minutes after our appointment time, a half hour in total we were greeted by two male masseuses. This was a total shock! We've had couples massages many times and I've always had a guy and my husband has always had a girl doing the massage. They said they were the only ones available. My husband was uncomfortable from the minute he saw Tim, the one who was going to massage him. Knowing that I really had my heart set on a massage, my hubby continued into the room although he wanted to run! He hated the entire hour!!!! Afterwards he told me that Tim kept doing these odd light little techniques that felt more like tickling than a massage. He also kept talking throughout the entire massage. His voice was quite disturbing for both of us. It really creeped out my husband. He'd have gotten up and walked out if he hadn't realized I was thoroughly enjoying my massage. My masseuse, David, was absolutely wonderful! He gave me the best massage I've ever had and I've had countless massages. I was really tense in my neck and back before he started but by the 30 minute mark I was feeling wonderful. David is an older gentleman who must have years of experience. He's very nice, polite and gives an outstanding deep tissue massage. I was completely comfortable with him during the entire experience. Too bad my husband can't say the same about his massage from Tim. I think he still has nightmares about that massage. Though David is an exceptional masseuse, my husband and I would not recommend Gruene Day Spa based upon the overall experience. They are also very expensive compared to other spas we've been to.

My wife and our granddaughter were shopping in Gruene and dropped in to inquire about a pedicure and manicure. While waiting to be helped, they were chatting in a normal tone of voice. A person from the back room appeared and rudely told them to keep their voices down so they would not disturb the people in the back who were receiving treatments. After several minutes a different person appeared and without greeting asked, “What can I help you with?” They said they would like to make appointments for a pedicure and manicure. The attendant replied, “We have nothing available either today or tomorrow.” My wife asked if they could get on a waiting list in case there is a cancellation. The attendant curtly replied, “It won’t do you any good.” This rude treatment was embarrassing for my wife in front of our 12 year old granddaughter, and even though we live in the area, you can bet my wife will neither return, nor recommend this establishment to anyone we know.

I went to the day spa for a friends birthday weekend celebration. I proceeded to get my massage from Melissa. Melissa did a great job, so I decided that I wanted my husband to have a massge from her. I proceeded to pay for his service that I scheduled the next afternoon. Well, after he spent all day on the river, he was in no condition to get a massage the next day (sun burned). I called the Spa as soon as they opened the next day, he didn't return from the river until after they had closed for the day. The person I spoke to said they do not give refunds for less than 24 hours notice. I told her that when i scheduled the appointment it was under the 24 hour mark, and no one told me about the cancellation policy. Also, I looked through the website, and again, no policy is on it. (I have a screenshot of every page for my records.) I asked her if I had not paid for the massage in advance, would I get my charged an she said no, but since I did, they won't refund the money. I think Joy was the person who was the messenger. I made multiple attempts to call the owner, but she is always busy. I sent her an e-mail, and she did not respond. A woman who conducts her business this way does not deserve to have a business. Needless to say, I will NEVER visit this spa again. Barbara -- Thanks for NOTHING!

Total confusion on the date of the appointment. The solution was to ask my wife to wait and see if someone showed up in a couple hours to fit her in. Needless to say my wife didn't have an interest in spending a day of vacation sitting waiting to see if she could be squeezed in after a few hours. There was no real care or concern that they screwed up the day of the appointment (date requested was the title of my email). As previous reviewer stated customer service not a big player here.

My wife and I have been to Gruene Day Spa twice in the last two months. The first experience was with Barbara who is the owner and it went pretty well as my wife got a pedicure. The second was far less pleasing as we arrived early as requested and I was led to a room for my massage. The receptionist left me in the massage room for about 15 minutes before the masseuse arrived and when she arrived she walked in and looked shocked that I was there. She asked if I was someone else as I did not look like the person who was supposed to be in the room. I was unsure what that meant but she finally decided that I was indeed the customer. I had requested a Deep Tissue massage and what I got was far less, in reality it more like a back rub by a novice. When all was said and done I thanked her and went to the waiting room to wait for my wife that was getting a facial and pedicure which went pretty well for her. I paid and we went on our way, that is when the real trouble started as Gruene Day Spa not only pulled the 280.00 dollars from my account but pulled an additional 240 that I had not agreed to. I called my bank and they showed two swipes on my card so I called Barbara as I was sure she would be understanding of the situation and rectify it immediately. It was COMPLETELY the opposite, she took offense to me call, telling me I was raising my voice when I was really calm and she was doing all the yelling. She told me there was NO WAY that what I was saying was true. If there was a problem it was with my bank of 12 years that had never done me wrong. I called the bank back and they provided the documentation that proved her wrong. Her lack of professionalism and control when faced with adversity was very concerning and her lack of willingness to resolve the problem and make her customer feel comfortable has driven us to separate ourselves from this company. WE WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN. We gave Barbara the opportunity to resolve the issue and make us feel comfortable and maintain us as customers but to that point she failed miserably. I called my bank back after speaking with Barbara from Gruene Day Spa and had my money back in less than 15 minutes. I do not recommend this company nor do I trust someone who is so defensive with a customer who is seeking help when there is a documented and proven issue. CUSTOMER BE WARE, find a different spa and save some stress.
