Thanks for coming to visit us and for sharing some of the fantastic pictures you took! Those are really wonderful. You captured a rich depth of color and provided some interesting perspectives as well. The Cathedral is a fun place to photograph ... glad you enjoyed it!

If possible, try and see a concert there as the acoustics and massive pipe organ are well worth the price of tickets. I've seen many churches in my time but the stain glass windows are phenomenal. The photos don't do justice to the bright colours, video works a bit better. Also the carvings on the pulpit are worth the visit alone. Parking is free and plentiful. There's a small cafe which was closed when we went.

We had a friend visiting from Vietnam and I was taking her around Washington DC. I suggested the National Cathedral. I had visited here at least 10 times but had never taken the escorted tour. We just happened to walk in when the tour started. It took about an hour. We learned so much from the tour and went to areas of the cathedral we had never been to before.Helen Keller is buried in the basement I didn't know that.Absolutely the only way to go. You can call ahead and get tour times.

I was here at least three times; and, the first two times was duly impressed. However, when I visited with my wife and daughter, I was made to realize that so much of this (particularly the windows) are more-testament to man than they are to God. That's a shame.

The last couple of years I have made it a pilgrimage of sorts to not only visit but make a service here. It is an amazing church unlike any other in the US more akin to European Cathedrals. To me this I s why it is a must visit. I will say I am an Episcopalian which is why I make the service. Still regardless of denomination or religion, this is an amazing house of worship that is essential to any complete DC visit. The stain glass and the state flags with the vaulted ceiling and massive pillars just make like no other church in this country.

Docent was a young girl at school next door. Outstanding anecdotal information about the renovation and ongoing development of this national treasure

I was amused to think that the US thought it was appropriate to build itself a national cathedral when Europeans have so many that are so old and so lovely. However, the American twist on gargoyles (Darth Vader!), a bit of moon rock embedded in one stained glass window (love the abstract design), and the gloriously fragrant and lush Bishop's Garden just beside it made this place well worth the trip! Climb up high and from the windows you can see all of DC. We didn't take the tour, and no events were occurring, but I would go back just for the view and a stroll in the garden.

My daughter visited in the summer. they didn't have a tour because of choir practice. It's interesting and worth the visit.

If you are planning a visit, check the website before you kick yourself for just having missed a tour or event. Even if you are not a co-religionist, you can plan to end/pause a busy day of working or touring in DC by stopping here for a quick evensong to elevate your spirit.

It was astounding to see a cathedral that is the resting place of President Woodrow Wilson, Admiral Dewy, and Helen Keller and her tutor. Definitely a must see.
