One of San Jose's most historic buildings, this former post office is now...

I had a long lunch free and popped into this museum. I had a nice, leisurely time strolling through the 2 floors of exhibits. Very well set arranged and relaxing.

This is pretty small museum that hosts different exhibitions from various american painter and modern art creators. The museum has 3 floors with 2-3 halls at each one.

It is a beautiful building in a central location. the collection needs some work. I am not an arexpert by any measure, but I have been fortunate enough to visit some fabulous art museums. This is not one of them. they are in Silicon Valley and seem to have a strong list of benefactors. i wish them the best in expanding the collection.

The best that can be said about the San Jose Museum of Art is that $5 is the appropriate entrance fee. The number of pieces of art on display was small, and most were photographs. Not worth the visit unless you are in downtown San Jose with nothing else to do.

I would not necessarily call this a "museum"... it is more of an art gallery. When I visited, they had several photo exhibitions and art installations on show. Because I am an art snob and am used to British Museum, Louvre and the Hermitage, I was severely underwhelmed. But it was definitely worth a visit. The staff is very friendly.

Even though I was there before opening, because I had to catch flight, a very nice lady let me in the door to take a quick look. Got some great pics!

It's a wonderful museum in city center and I was lucky because when I decided to watch it , there was two different time art and panting that we could watch, modern art and photos and some portrait painting from the first years of nineties. Museums has two floors, a coffee shop and small restaurant.

This is a great museum to go to to view modern art examples. i love the glass sculptures hanging form the ceilings. Also a great place for school field trips. The docents are knowledgeable and patient with students.

Give yourself plenty of time to wander through the exhibits. There are nooks and crannies which you may not see the first time you go through an area. The variety of art is excellent, most mediums seem to be displayed. Wonderful part of downtown San Jose

I visit San Jose every year to see family and I always stop in at the art museum to check out the current exhibits. I'm never disappointed although this year the main floor was off limits due to reconstruction. Still, there were some great displays upstairs including an interactive area. I also really like the museum store. I do some of my Christmas shopping there!

This museum was right next to my hotel. As I arrived in the late afternoon, it seemed like a worthy excursion. The collection is very small and contemporary. i enjoyed some of the artists' works especially those I had not heard of or seen before. They had a couple very nice Jasper Johns. The Museum needs at least one masterpiece. I believe this would expand the reach. The collection seemed to be centered around one benefactor. Her personal history was quite interesting and of a time long gone. The facility itself is lovely and deserving of more. The gift shop was especially nice and had lots of interesting objects for sale of many types. The staff in the shop were very helpful and efficient. The staff at the front desk were very welcoming and helpful.I hope one of the Silicon Valley giants adopts this museum and obtains some masterpieces. Art encourages creativity in all arenas. The space and the city are deserving of that.

Excellent displays in all galleries visited and both cafe and shop brilliant. Loved the extra stuff downstairs.

This museum lacks substance. It feels more like a gallery made for selling than a gallery for the public. Too small and too minimal. Such a shame.

It's hard to believe today that this museum was once packed with people drawn by charming and quirky exhibits, but that was thirty years and several directors ago. We went on a Sunday afternoon and there were no more than twenty visitors in the whole vast place, looking at work that must seem valuable to curators but just goofy to most people. If you're craving a great museum experience in this area, go to the marvelous Cantor Museum on the Stanford University campus. The Cantor has a great mixture of very new and very old but all of it is delicious. And while the SJMOA charges $8 per victim, the Cantor is free. There are more people in its cafe than in the entire SJMOA and art that will get your attention.

This museum always has some interesting contemporary art shows, with a particular emphasis on art that has to do with technology. Often the art here feels much more cutting edge than at San Francisco MOMA. Some of the exhibits are on tours that include the Whitney. There is also a very good selection of works by mid-century California artists.
