When you are on conference in the San Jose Convention Center, it is difficult to find time for visit wineries around, but it is always possible to find one hour to visit J. Lohr tasting room (just 2 miles from Convention Center). You will be able to taste up to 6 perfect wines for free and buy a few bottles of them. It was very interesting and educational for me, because staff was very friendly and share a lot of knowledge about wines.

I am a member of J.Lohr Winery and have taken many of my friends to wine taste at their San Jose Location. It is a free wine tasting and the wines are very reasonably priced...compared to Napa Wineries. The wine is great and it's close to other places to visit around town. You don't have to drive 50 miles for a free wine tasting experience.

I had a few hours to kill before my flight from San Jose left, so I stopped in here to check it out. Tastings are free, so you just go up to the bar and they will give you tastes of up to six different wines. The staff was very friendly and interesting, and was a great place to stop to kill some time. There wasn't anywhere to sit, and the cell phone service was very bad (I was hoping to get through a few emails while I was there), but still worth stopping in.

Because of meds I am on I cannot drink. (Insert frowney face here). But enough of the pity party because even though I couldn't drink (I did taste a smidge) J. Lohr Winery is an awesome place. 6 friends and I did a tasting party and several of the ladies purchased wine to take home. We did the wine and chocolate pairing tasting and it was great. Our hosts were very well versed in all the wines and the chocolate and showed how different the wine tasted after a nibble of certain chocolates. What fun. It is also great how easy it is to drop in on J. Lohr right off The Alameda in Downtown San Jose. Have a tasting and then jump over to dinner. You will have a wonderful experience at J. Lohr Winery. Don't miss it.

We remembered j Lohr from 16 or more years ago. It was a friendly wine tasting bar with a helpful staff and good deals on wine. It has only changed from super to super great. We enjoyed the samples and descriptions of the locale of the the grapes etc. Well worth a visit with nearby restaurants for after samples!

Our first stop was a wine tasting at the J. Lohr tasting room. Great setting and great wines. I also learned that J. Lohr has a Wine Club that allows you to have wine shipped to you quarterly at a discounted rate. It is a great way to try out a variety of wines from them throughout the year. They even create exclusive wines just for club members.

We are big J. Lohr wine fans so on our recent trip from Monterey to San Fran, we ducked into San Jose to stop by the J. Lohr tasting room. What a great surprise. The room is tastefully decorated and in the back area you can watch the bottling process in action. There are special events held in this room and it can be booked for specials occasions and corporate functions. We then made our way to the Wine Bar where we were invited to try 6 generous samples of wine at no-cost. The wines are delicious, the service is intimate (no tours here) and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. A great way to spend some time sampling terrific wines.

I enjoy going wine tasting around the bay area, but there is one winery that is in town and not too far from downtown San Jose. J. Lohr Winery is convenient and you get the same experience as you do in many fine wineries without having to drive to Livermore or Gilroy or Santa Cruz mountains. I am a member of J. Lohr Winery and I recommend this winery.

Although I have lived in San Jose for many years and certainly have drank J. Lohr wines, I have never visited their tasting room. I went with friends to a wine dinner recently - what a wonderful event! This event was a Tapas and wine tasting. I figured it would be generous bites - it was so much more! As the guests gathered in the tasting room, we started with a lovely wine accompanied by some cheese. After a generous sample or two, we were seated in the next room. The chef for the evening came out to explain each course and and a J Lohr rep explained the wine pairing. The food was wonderful, and we enjoyed each wine that was offered. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. As a bonus, wine was offered for sale at a discount that evening to all attendees. We purchased most of the wines that we sampled. We will be back for another great event!

The tasting room is very close to my home and is located centrally in San Jose. The staff there is very knowledgeable about the wine and always seem to remember their wine members. I have take many friends there from out of town who wish to wine taste during a business trip with limited time. It's Napa in San Jose! Great wine selection and tasting is free!

Fun time - felt a little like a neighborhood bar - many locals there. Enjoyed every wine I tasted and that you got to choose six to try from a list of 15 or more. I would go back - had wine shipped home!

Went here for a wine and chocolate tasting with some friends, and really enjoyed ourselves. The host were informative without being condescending, and they really helped us see the effects of the wine on the taste of the chocolate and vice versa. The wines and chocolates were very good, and all the guests were friendly. Overall, a great time!

J Lohr wines may not be among the utmost celebrated vinos in the USA (marketing strategy?) - but they are always good, deserving of respect... And many of them are indeed outstanding. And - best of all - always affordable! This is family-run operation, opened not that long ago (1974), not a big winery nor boutique either. But its tasting rooms always offer excellent opportunities to enjoy some of their best wines - free of charge still to this day. Herein they will share some of their best wines, including unusual varietals.not just the average stuff. A delightful and friendly spot to visit, learn and enjoy...

I was in Santa Clara for some business meetings. I knew I wouldn't have time to make it up to wine country, but was delighted to find this tasting room not far away in San Jose. Two colleagues and I arrived a little after 4:00 on a Wednesday evening. There were others there, but still room at the tasting bar. One of my colleagues is very new to wine, one is more of an occasional wine drinker, and I am more experienced (although certainly not an expert). So we presented an interesting challenge to Mike, our server. He handled it all with aplomb - answering questions, customizing the next sample to what he was learning about each of our tastes. I found a cabernet that I just love (Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon). And Mike even gave us a great recommendation for dinner. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Second visit to the J. Lohr winery in Paso Robles. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and the tasting is free in a beautiful area, what more could you ask for? Definitely stop in this winery if you're in the area. We even joined their wine club during out last visit.
