Lots of cool candy to oogle. Sugar free stuff available. Must stop just to check it out even if you don't buy anything.

As soon as you step in the door the coloured sweets are amazing, so are the choices. If that does not tempt you to buy the smell will. You can also see through to the rear and watch staff making the sweets in 1860 style dresses. After a long look around we bought several selections of sweets to last over a few days. Unfortunately they were all eaten that day. An absolute must visit.

Not only did we enjoy the historic gold rush town of Columbia, CA, but I visited Nelson's Columbia Candy Kitchen. I believe their large selection of candies are all made there. I got a 1/8 pound of their milk chocolate almond bark. It was the most delicious chocolate I've ever had. The shop has the old fashioned scales to weigh the candy, just like in the 1800's and the employees dress like that time period too. What a treat, in more ways than one!

As a local I often buy candy here. The Nelsons do it right! You can often watch candy being made on huge marble slabs. Watching them make giant candy canes for Christmas is especially fun.

If you ever visit the old west town of Columbia, CA, you must make at least one (if not more!) stops at the Candy Kitchen. They have the best selection of candy and special treats (most of it is made on property). My husband and I made three trips over two days because we simply couldn't get enough. Even the decor is amazing -- you'll feel like you've just stepped back in time to the 1800's. For any lover of candy or history, this is a must see place. Highly recommended!
