we enjoyed the trip up on the train but it wasn't that thrilling a spot itself. it was enjoyable but not the highlight of the trip. Still worth checking out mind you.

You can get a good view from the castle but this is more expansive, and you don't have to trek all the way up. If you're more of a tourist than an explorer just get the hill railway up there.

If you like outdoors and sports, I strongly recommend you to take the "Himmelsleiter" (the ladder to heaven). A very very steep stone stairs surrounded by deep woods. Its like walking in medieval ages, being able to be in touch with wild nature. The steps are so steep its quite a challenge. 20 minutes going up on an old stone stairs. Once you get to the top, the breath taking panoramic view is a great reward.

The view from here is kind of a prize after a tiring but very cool hike or bike ride. Alternatively taking the cable car to konigstuhl is a very nice experience. Alternatively, you can take the bus number 39 from bismarkplatz.

Enjoy the amazing view of Heidelberg and its spectacular. If you feel a bit sporty can trek up from the Heidelberg castle and enjoy the hidden trails with some great viewpoints as well. Its beautiful and its nature at its best. If not you can also take the funicular up and enjoy the ride up.

Still being renovated. It is a Restaurant and very old. Don't know when it will be open. You won't get hungry as there are coffee places.

if you have time you can go for a stroll into the forrest. Many trails are directly starting from Heidelberg downtown right behind the castle..At the top there is a old restaurant with a kios, you can reach it via the funicular. But the highlight is the forrest and the hidden trails and sights to the valley. If you are lucky you see forrest pigs, deer or eagles.I recommend the trails from downtown or the peak of the Königstuhl to Hohler Kästenbaum, Kohlhof (has a nice restaurant) and back.

There is not much to say, you have to see it. The view is outstanding! On a clear day you can se the other small cities near to Heidelberg. Take a walk in the woods if you're up for it, beautiful.

You can go by car andpark near the bergbahn and visit the altstadt from here. But up here it is wonderfull in green and woods and cool in summer. Very good to vist with children.Nice terrace and restaurant. It seems Heidelberg citizens come here for a stroll and coffe or wine on sundays.

Wonderful spot upon which to gaze on Heidelberg and the valley it is in. Many photo opportunities. Take time for pretzel and a beer!

It is definitly worth the ride up.It takes a while to get up with the special mountain train but you shouldn't miss it when you are in Heidelberg

After taking the funicular up there (there is also a road you can drive or ride a bike up) we were granted a great view of the city and the valley, along with a clean view of the oposing mountain (Heiligenberg). The bar up there although a bit pricey was very good, and we managed to see a falcon (or eagle, sorry don't know the difference at that distance) grabbing a snake and throwing it down at some rocks before swooping down to eat it. Also we manage to catch quite a show of some people practicing paragliding (it was quite windy up there).

This is a lovely piece of forest and it's nice that you can be away from crowds of people for a while. It's also easy walking downhill after taking the funicular to the top (9€ each). Plenty of ways to choose and you don't have to hike with mountain bikes nearby - they have separate paths. We largely followed signs to either the Schloss or number 2. Lovely views and a pretty easy 4km walk in the woods and we saw 5 other people the whole time.

The Konigstuhl has a vast network of intertwining trails that twist around the entire mountain range high above Heidelberg's old city. I brought a group of 6-7 riders up to the "king's chair" this past spring and had an incredible ride. The trails are multi-use so look out for hikers. Not to mention deer or wild boar which are also common if you walk or pedal quietly enough! You'll see another side of Heidelberg from the endless outlooks and viewing ares complete with benches scattered throughout on every trail. Strategically placed rocks with carved out directions in white paint guide you towards the direction you are headed to so it's impossible to get lost. Or so I thought! But isn't that part of the joy in traveling? Getting lost and exploring new and interesting locations along the way are all part of traveling!

We popped up to the top via the funicular rail and the view over the countryside is wonderful on a clear day. Many people use this as the start/end for walking groups and cycling as is basically a forest area and national park. Good on anyone who cycles or walks up to this spot! (and I mean up!)
