We visited in late November and had no problem with crowds. We had the place to ourselves! The guide opened up the Church for us and pointed out the highlights of the paintings. Some of the frescoes had been over-restored but they are still very impressive. That they have survived for so long is amazing. There is a sign prohibiting flash photography but our guide took this to mean no photography at all. Disappointing.

We were awed by the quality of the magnificent frescoes in this quaint Byzantine country church. Only €3 to enter. No flash photography and obviously no touching. If you are in the are this is a must visit.

A beautiful church both inside and out. Lovely setting too. Well worth the journey. lovely nins and a small shop selling icons and cards as well as the book about the place.

A beautiful small church located a short walk off the main road. The frescoes are well persevered and it is worth a visit. You will only need 20 minutes.

I really liked seeing the artwork here but there was no information on what you were looking at. I know a few of the 'well-known' bible stories but still felt I couldn't really appreciate what I was looking at.

Amazing location! Great church. Love the serenity of this place. If you are on the way to the Lasithi Plateau then you should stop to see it.

A byzantine church dated since the 13th century full of frescos. The church, which is located 1km before Kritsa is a place that you really have to visit during your visit in crete.

After visiting some archaeological sites in the august heat, we wanted to get away from the crowds and see a church or monastery - what a wonderful choice! It was almost empty when we were there, and the frescos (many in tribute to Saint Anna, mother of the Virgin Mary) were so beautiful and it was a very peaceful and calm way to pass an hour. It is very easy to get to from Agios Nikolous and surrounding resorts -- one tour bus arrived as we were leaving but otherwise we had the place very happily to ourselves. Also enjoyed a lunch at the taverna paradiso across the road - a real highlight of our trip to Crete.

This ancient church is set a little back from the main road about 1km east of the village of Kritsa. There is a bus stop nearby so it is easy to reach from Agios Nikolaios bus station. The exterior has been restored so is now rendered. The church is under the care of the Greek Ministry of Tourism and Culture and entrance fee at the time of writing was €2.The 13th and 14th century frescos are really interesting and well worth a visit if you are interested in art. It is very small so it does not take a great deal of time to visit. Unfortunately the Greek authorities will not permit photography or imaging of any kind inside regardless of flash. An English language leaflet describes the paintings and their history. A further English language book on local Greek churches is published by the Parish of the Holy Trinity Agios Nikolaos and can be purchased from the Ag Nik cathedral for €5. This contains black and white photos of this church and colour pictures of other local frescos.

This unassuming building houses wonderful frescoes that evoke a time long gone that one feels a little close to.

A short ride on our scooter from Agios Nikolaos, just before you reach Kritsa. This old church is worth a visit to view the frescos inside (no photography allowed). 3 Euro entrance fee.

We travelled by local bus to Kritsa from Ag Nik then walked the short distance. Of just over a kilometre from the village to the church. Wonderful painted frescoes and a very peaceful atmosphere. The little cafe by the church serves delicious Greek yoghurt with honey in a very welcoming and pleasant setting.

It is well worth the trouble to visit this tiny old church - it wont take you long, but some of the very old icons and the general structure give it a real sense of it's age. Kids will love the icon with skeletond on!

We visited this amazing chapel in the afternoon. The frescos are from the 13th and 14th century and are in very good condition. Both my wife and I felt a spiritual calm from the chapel and it was well worth the visit
