We went here when we were on our honeymoon with our todler (1 year). I carried here since the way down was so steep it's dangerous for kids. After the climb downwards we found ourselfs in a secret passage to the sea. We could not see a path so it was just trying to get down without hurting ourselfs. The water looks amazing and it's not easily to get down there that we had the beach for ourselfs.

Maybe The Most Beautiful Beach Of Chania ,very close to the old town .A little dangerous for those who don't wear close shoes. Get SANDWICHES ,COLD WATER AND UMBRELLAS BECAUSE IS A REALLY VIRGIN place!

Skevi

Close to Chania town (around 30 minutes) and airport. The road to the beach from Chania is not so bad. There are no facilities so take with you your own food, water etc.View from the top is fantastic. You will have to walk down the cliff to reach the small beach, which is not easy to do it, so not suitable for all people, but it worths it.We recommend to go early in the morning because it becomes croweded later in the day.

Venicemania

A very different, gorgeous, small beach approximately 35 minutes from the town of Chania. Crystal clear, deep waters having all shades of blue. The last part of the road that'll take you there is steep but there is plenty of parking space and the views from there are so rewarding! And here is that the hard part starts. The path that will lead you to the beach is very steep and you should only dare it if you have your walking shoes on and not any issues with your knees. Definitely not suitable for kids under 12, not the track nor the beach since the water gets deep at a very close distance of the shore. A great place though for those who enjoy jumping in the water off the rocks around. Very crowded during July and August ( you must be willing to share your spot with others, since there is not enough space on the beach), the age group of the visitors is between 18 to 30 years old, Greeks and foreigners. This is a day long excursion rather than a few hours visit and make sure that you bring your own food and beverage. Don't be discourage by the difficulty in access, once you get there you'll not regret it, only, the younger you are the most you'll enjoy it.

Impresive view from the top! Close to the airport and town of Chania... Really nice water! The only minus is the difficulty of walking down the cliff to reach the sea..

This is a gorgeous beach on the west part of the Akrotiri peninsular. Access is down a steep track which would be very tricky for some people and young children. The road there is very steep with several hairpin bends, so you have to want to go! Once there you are rewarded by a narrow beach (gritty and stony), glorious water and opportunities for jumping in off rocks. Obviously a local spot rather than touristy. There are no facilities at all so take your own food and water and something to shade you once there.

Hard to find, but worth the effort. Mostly a young peoples beach, but everybody are free to enjoy this hidden gem. Water gets deep very quickly, so not a place for very small children - our son is 11 and is a good swimmer, so he had no problems enjoying the beach/water.

pharoahs_revenge

Definitely hard to find. The hairpins were a little bit scary on way down but easier going up. If you park on the slope on the road put some rocks under the wheels and leave in first gear. the walk down will be a challenge for some people - i think we were the oldest on the beach (early 50s) (not sand but shingle and pebbles) so that tells you the walk down makes it inaccessible to some. Sea looked great and people diving in off the cliffs. Trendy place for the local young people to meet up with their friends.

Make the effort and find this amazing beach! The road is steep and you"d need to be a reasonably confident driver but it's well kept.Take drinks and road and wear trainers for the scramble down the rocky path. Truly felt like paradise!Children would struggle getting up and down so probably not the place for them.

I came across this beach while was doing holiday resarch before my Crete trip. And I am so happy that I managed to find it. The best beach on the island. You need to hike down about 200 metres a rocky path - flip flops definitely not recommended - but is is really worth it. This place is like a paradise. Very quiet, tiny and secluded place with amazing view on azure water The beach is rocky and at that day the waves were quite high so you need to be careful but still go there if you can. Take some water and food because there is no facilities.

gregas

It is as other reviewers write, not a place for common traveler. You need to descent following at least 200 meters of rocks and doing so be extremely careful, but once down, this is a paradise beach like the one at Ko Phi Phi in Thailand. The place is separarted from any wind due to the mountain and the view is spectacular. The GPS location to this beach is 35.551424 , 24.192356

Seitan Limania is one of the best beaches in Crete. Not usual, not kids/elderly friendly but is worth taking a dangerous drive & hike to get down there. You may want to avoid visiting the other sandy beaches in Crete on a WINDY day; the sand hits you very hard on the wind which is pretty sore but it doesn't matter to this beach. You can see some fish under the clear emerald water too. This place is a bit hidden as there is a gate on the way (you can open it) and has a rocky path down to the beach. I went down with my flipflops, but is definitely better off having a pair of trainers. Also there is no food stalls so take some snacks & drink with you.

This beach is known in English as "Satans Harbours".This was our best day out of 14 in Crete.I found this beach after looking on the cretanbeaches website which explains how to find it etc. The road is exciting but not dangerous at all, yes it is a switchback but it is tarmac and wide enough to pass another car, the views are awesome. We got lost on the way from stavros, our satnav took us through some dirt roads to a quarry! It is worth getting a local to advise you how to get there before you set off.The only thing I would say is to think carefully about safety. There are two issues:1) My son is 7 and he ran ahead on the track as we were descending to the beach. He got to the beach OK, but I was horrified to see that the last section of the descent is steep and difficult in places and he could very easily have fallen and either died or seriously broken his bones with one wrong step. I had nightmares about this later! I didn't expect it to be like that as the first half of the descent is not so treacherous. We lugged down several bags of picnic and beach gear, its not so hard and only 10mins walk but you need common-sense, decent grippy shoes and keep hold of childrens hands tightly!!! A backpack is advised to keep your hands free. There seems to be two paths down, we took the direct route past the shrine next to the car park, perhaps the other route that switches back is longer but safer?2) Once on the beach we were alone. Later one guy turned up, he was quite a big guy and I started to worry a little about our safety if he decided to do something to my attractive wife or kids. I felt a bit uneasy as no-one can hear you scream in this very very remote and isolated location, and it is at least 20 mins to the tiny village nearby. (Actually I later realised he was gay as two other young guys turned up an hour later and they started massaging each other and frolicking about). I may be a little over worried but at least be aware of these risks before heading out with your wife and kids. In August it is probably quite busy here so less of an issue.

Okay. Finding this beach is tough. It's way off the beaten path and called a Hidden Beach for a reason. If you are in the area--ask the locals, research it on the internet, do whatever you can to find this place. You will need your a car to get here. Once you follow the very scary switch-back road, you will then have to hike down to the beach. It's not too bad, but you certainly can't bring little kids or dogs along. I also recommend tennis shoes rather than flipflops for safety reasons. There is a path-ish down to the bottom, follow that and don't try to make your own path. The pictures don't give this place justice. Try to find it if you can!! :) Beautiful.
