vaduz is a nice place to stop by on the way to or from Zurich. Good place to have lunch and spend a couple hours.

After staying the night in Saint Louis this was the fourth stop on our trip to visit 5 countries in less than 6 hours. Sadly it's closed to the public but a great photo opportunity.Saint Louis - FranceWeil am Rhein - Germany Basel & Zurich - Switzerland Vaduz - Lichtenstein Feldkirch - Austria

Vaduz Castle in Vaduz, the capital of that tiny, land-locked heaven in earth, is a typical stone-built castle that houses the royalty of Liechtenstein. The current ruler is reputed to be the richest in Europe with a wealth much more than the Queen of England. Land-locked between Austria and Switzerland, this country has a typical Alpine beauty to it. The huge mountains rising from the Rhine valley guards the country on one side like a natural fortress. Being a banker I was interested in knowing that the country had its wealth from its Banking industry which unfortunately has earned not such a good name in International Banking circles due to the country's slack laws. But for a lover of scenic beauty this country and the city of Vaduz is something which is must in his itinerary for an Alpine tour of Europe.

It is of course important to note that one cannot go in the castle- nevertheless it is nice to admire from the outside, with its painted shutters and rather odd shape. I would thoroughly recommend the hike up from the centre of town. We did it the day after two feet of snow had fallen, and it was a medium-difficulty walk in proper walking boots- a few icy patches but nothing horrendous. There are informative signs in the way up for you to read and catch your breath at. The view all the way up is splendid, you can see the vineyards and some of the prettier areas of Vaduz. It's a good walk to do if you want to get away from the tour groups.

It is not only an old castle looming over the land, but its the current royal residence and you can drive right up to it! You can't go inside obviously, but you can certainly go up, take pics and wander around closer than most places where royals and leaders currently live! Neat!!

Beautiful castle, but nothing to do or nothing else to see... Its only a small castle, I would not recommend a visit, specialy to Vaduz

Really gorgeous castle. As royalty are still residing there, you cannot go inside, however it is a very beautiful piece of work, with a nice placement on a hill, over-looking much of Liechtenstein.

Last week I visit Liechtenstein and went to see the Vaduz castle. I drive through the town centre, and easily found the road climb to the castle. After a short drive I reach the castle, but the castle is no access to outsiders. I enjoyed the views from the mountain - whole Vaduz town and beyond. Not worth if anybody going particularly to see the castle, but on your way a visit worth.

due to work reason, I had a chance to go visit vaduz castle in October. looking from outside, vaduz castle is very simple and you may not think they are people living inside. but if you go inside, vaduz castle has a great view of Liechtenstein, looking at the winery, mountain and villages. not just that, some of the art collections displayed on the wall are amazing. these may not be million dollars of art works coming from a famous artist. it is an ordinary painting that the family likes. this castle is private only, not many people get to see what's inside. I'm grateful to be the lucky one.

Even though the tour might not be worth it, but the drive up to the Castle is worth every minute of your time. Overall, I am not a huge fan of Vaduz city, where everything is over priced. I would recommend taking the bus/car up, since the hike is quite painful. If you are renting a car in Zurich, it is about 2 hours to get to Vaduz, and a 2 hours back. You can actually combine the castle trip into another day trip. Other than the castle, I personally felt there wasnt much to do in the Vaduz area.

The castle itself is closed to the public but its hill is beautiful from afar and you can climb on it (15-20 min, medium effort) to see the beautiful views of Vaduz and the castle up close. Well worth an hour round trip.

The castle itself is fairly uninspiring compared to what we have in Britain but it is worth the climb for the views on the way. A good view of the castle is from the road leading to the football stadium looking back but a telephoto lens would be needed for best results. Best pictures of it from below are in the afternoon when the sun is shining on it.
