We enjoyed the visit to this lovely museum based in a disused original railway station. The life size figures depicting passengers and railway staff give a period atmosphere from the ticket collector reminding all to have their tickets ready to the blind accordion player and the dog barking at the chickens. The volunteer staff are all enthusiasts and as it was quiet we had a personal tour. All the technical questions my steam buff husband asked were answered. Although we were not there to see the steam tram running it's working were explained to us. A great attraction keep up the good work.

Not only a great historic display but you can ride on the Purrey Steam Tram. Looked after by friendly volunteers that have a passion for the station. Went to a wedding reception on the platform at night, what a great venue.

Informative & almost real life like exhibition. Great, friendly staff. A lovely way to spend an afternoon. Or as previous visitors a fantastic wedding venue. :-)

Really enjoyed this visit with a trip on the coal fired tram sand a morning tea in the old tea rooms where volunteers from the old days informed me of the way it used to be...

Excellent display of historic railway station and train carriages. And the short trip in the restored tram was great. Very worthwhile.

Lived in Rocky for years but never went to this place until just recently. What a treasure. Old trains, sleeper cars to explore, rail history, great volunteers with a wealth of information, tea and biscuits... a very pleasant way to spend a few hours.

I have lived in Rockhampton, on and off, for a number of years and had no idea that this existed. The station building is really large and straight out of the early 1900s. Don't know how I missed it! We enjoyed a ride on the Purrey steam tram, and heard stories of 'penny' rides to the Showgrounds. This place is now manned by volunteers, as the council has removed any paid staff. Lots of the volunteers are in their 70s/80s and it makes you fearful for the future of this gem. The 'characters' on the platforms are really well done, and the information boards are really interesting.

A quaint little museum in Rockhampton that depicts the history of railways in the Central Queensland region. Unable to ride the steam tram as it was not operating on the day.

Interesting exhibits in a lovely setting. Staff (volunteers) just so helpful. Steam tram ride on the Sunday we went was a bonus for us. Take an hour or so, have tea and coffee there too.

While we enjoyed our visit, it just seemed to miss that something that gets you excited and want to visit again. Displays are alright but basic. The volunteers that staff this place could do with some training in the history of the town.

We visited the railway museum with interstate visitors. It was one of the most loveliest things I have done since childhood. The volunteers were so kind and helpful, everything was so professional and ran like clockwork. We have a child with severe disabilities, and nothing was too much trouble, my son even had a ride on their working tram, the only one of its type in the world. Everything there is so well loved, looked after and restored. I think anyone travelling to this part of the world should put Rockhampton on their itinerary, there is so much to see and do. Most of all don't forget to go and see the Railway station and it's wonderful history and volunteers.

Stayed there for a personal tour which went for nearly 2 hours. Was very informative by a man that had spent 20+ years driving trains himself. Enjoyable and recommended

A lot of time and volunteer effort has gone into making this a valuable treasure trove of local railway history. There aren't a lot of large rolling stock or loco exhibits but those that do exist have been restored and can be walked through in order to get an impression of what travelling by rail would have been like at the beginning of the 20th century. There are a number of static exhibits including part of a signal box and block working equipment, admirably displayed as a working exhibit by one of the volunteers, as well as the station itself which has been designed to show it would have looked 100 years ago. This is a little gem which deserves to be supported so that the railway history of the area is not lost.
