I performed a ceremony out at the Greenmount Homestead under the massive trees near the outdoor BBQ. It truly was a beautiful setting, great photo opportunities against the trees with the paddocks in the background, back out over Walkerston & down into Mackay even from that small rise that the homestead sits on. It was so nice & cool in the shade of the trees & undoubtedly a very enjoyable afternoon

This is fabulous time capsule. You can step back in time to see how the Cook family lived. The homestead and the shed contain al the equipment for time gone by.

Constructed in 1915, the house is not that old to look at because it is shown as it was when last occupied, around the 1950's. There are lots of things from the past on display, but most are post-WWII.

After checking the website to double check the opening hours (9.30am - 12pm Monday to Friday). We drove there, only to see a closed sign over the fence. I rang the phone number - no answer so left a message. Why advertise you are open at a certain time and then not be open. Makes me rage!!!! I am only in Mackay for a few days and am very interested in this homestead. So so disappointed. Make sure you ring before you go!! And if there is no answer - don't bother going. We then called the council and apparently there was a sign stating they weren't open till the 13th. There was no sign.

This beautiful original homestead takes you back in time ! It is looked after by a trust and run by volunteers. There is a small admission fee, which is fine. The local young school children love visiting and most 'young' people are in awe as to how people lived and worked back in the 1800's. It is very well kept and the surrounding grounds and gardens are great to wonder around, the views are wonderful. A great place for a picnic also and soak up the North Queensland sunshine !!

Heritage homestead looked after by a Trust. Small admission fee grants you access to the interior where you step back in time to the days when the Cook family lived there. Gloria, one of the original servants is on hand to show you around.

Love the ambience and the site. Took some overseas friends recently and very disappointed to find the place closed at lunch times on weekends! Surely this is when people want to visit or have a picnic in the beautiful grounds!! Check opening hours before venturing out !!

The tour was very good, the lady was very knowledgable. I would have liked to be able to take photos inside the house.

Over the years one loses a sense of history. Green mount homestead has managed to bring it alive again with the displays of clothes, toys and household items used in the era of days long gone. It is a treasure for school children to witness. It has changed over the years with many things not as I remember or on display but still well worth a trip.
