It's a Beautiful Place to visit and hike. We hiked from our villa up the road to the mountain almost everyday. The views are magnificent and the trails are easy, but steep.

Stopped off during a cruise and wanted something different. Took a taxi from the dock up to the National Park entrance, very scenic drive. No guides were evident but there is a restaurant/souvenir shop run by Jim who was very helpful and lent us a colour coded well used map. Overall we did 3 miles in lovely rain forest albeit it was quite dry during our visit and we only saw one other couple. Make sure you get to the big Fig Tree and viewing platform. Need to be quite fit with sound foot ware to do all the walks especially the up and down from the viewing platform. Finish the walk with one of Jim's delicious Banana smoothies!. Make sure you arrange for your taxi to pick you up. Allow two and half hours so you can enjoy the walk and smoothie. We took our taxi down to Cane Garden Beach which is a good way to finish the day.

Spent a couple of hours hiking here - well marked with some informational signs. Trail rather wet when we were there. The view was nice. Had a smoothie at the shop when we finished. Good for a change of pace from the beach - hiking much better on St John

Today my husband and I went for a hike in Sage Mountain. We had such a great time there. First of all, do not hesitate to stop at the Mountain View bar. Jim is there and will provide you with a detailed map. We had also a nice talk with him. The total hike lasted less than 2 hours. Of course, there is a shorter trail if you don't have enough time to hike. The trail was easy, but we needed to be careful of the mud and the slippery stones. It was very shady and we were completely alone on this trail. The view was nice from there. The trees were amazing.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HIKE! You will not regret it!

For a change from the normal sea level activity in BVI go for a walk at Sage Mountain. Expect this to be a hike and one on a trail which may be muddy. The greenery and rain forest plants are too numerous to mention. Stop at the Sage Mountain Visitor Building and talk to Jim. He set you out with a map and information for you walk and provide you with a cold drink after your return. If you have time reserve a dinner with him or have a bite of lunch. It may well turn out to be the best meal you have on Tortola

Bring your camera/phone. Don't miss Skyview, a tour to Sage Mountain gives one a great back dope of Tortola's rum trading history, schools, politics, and landscape.

Great view point to see the entire island and surrounding islands. It is a winding drive to get up there, so definitely make sure your car can handle the STEEP hills. We didn't have a chance to do the hike because of time, but make sure you stop by the bar at the top of the mountain that is run by an ex-pat british man named Jim. Worth the lively conversation!

If you're looking for something different to do when you get off the cruise ship, this is for you. My family and I enjoy hiking on vacation and it was nice to hike in a tropical climate. The trail can be muddy, and it is certainly not handicap accessible, but it was very fun for 2 college students and parents to hike. Don't wear nice shoes. The view from the top is great - you can see a lot of islands. As for wildlife, we saw some large spiders and some boar tracks. Tropical plants are very green and we even saw a banana tree! There is a bar/restaurant/shop at the beginning/end of the trail where you can wait for your taxi to pick you up. The owner is incredibly nice and a great local to talk to about the culture of the island. (He knows everyone and can call your cab driver too.) No need to pay for a tour. A great way to spend a day doing something different than the beach on a Caribbean island.

Not too much to see, except the 'Top of the World', which is highly recommended. Drive slowly so you can stop and take pictures when you see a great spot. Very beautiful.

Expect rough trails, but enjoy the wonderful view. Be sure you take it all the way to the highest point in the BVI's

We visited Sage Mountain as part of our port adventure with Disney Cruise Line a few years back. Our cruise had been rerouted because of a hurricane, and we ended up in the Eastern Caribbean instead of the Western Caribbean. As a result, we hastily needed to book new excursions the day our cruise departed from Florida! We took a 45-minute drive up the mountain from the cruise port and our driver gave us plenty of colorful commentary and history of the island while we drove. We ended up really loving Cane Garden Bay. This was the second part of our excursion, after a hike up Sage Mountain, so we were sweaty and muddy and ready to jump in the bay. I wish I could say the same about our visit to Sage Mountain, but this was truly the only low point of the trip. Part of it was our fault: we were not dressed correctly and didn't pack hiking shoes as we were not planning to hike in our original excursion in Cozumel (we were supposed to ride Jeeps to the beach). Part if it was their fault: the hiking trail was very faint, you couldn't see the trail without a guide in some spots and I ended up stepping in a fire ant nest because the grass was too high to see where I was stepping. It wasn't until about fifty feet that we came upon a clearing and I saw what had happened and could attend to my burning feet (I was only wearing a pair of Toms). As I'm whisking the ants away, the guide ahead of us tells the rest of the group to "watch out for fire ants." The welts took about four months to clear up completely. The rest of the hike was steep both ascending and descending, with roots coming out of the earth, lots of steep and narrow path, and (since it was a rainforest) there was mud that made the end of the journey slippery as well. I feel that if I had proper hiking shoes on, I might have fared better. The hike was definitely advertised as placing on the low-end of the intensity scale, but I would have rated it intermediate. There is a gift shop and bathroom facility at the welcome center for Sage Mountain but the facilities are not in great condition, so please be forewarned.Overall, if you're a hiker that is prepared for an intermediate-level hike, you will have a wonderful time. There is a sign that points to you the "highest point in BVI" and there is a lookout with a beautiful view at the top of the mountain.I am not sure if there are other trails, but I would be wary of trying this hike again after my previous experience.

If you are looking for something nice to do other than swim, eat and drink, this is your spot. Lovely trails wind through and around the Park. There is one lookout inside the Park through the gate on the right hand side and another more expansive view through the gate on the left hand side. Some of the trails just wind about aimlessly offering a good workout and jungle type vistas intermittently listing this or that type of flora. Others lead you to amazing views of the surrounding islands. Apply your bug spray and wear good walking shoes as the trails are rocky and rooty. Stop in and see Jim in the green gift shop for a fresh banana smoothie and or lunch and some pleasant conversation.

Exciting, narrow, twisting roads take you higher and higher, each view becoming more breathtaking, each mile becoming more dense in lush vegation as you enter rain forest.Look out for declining evience of farming, fields of sugar cane, bananas, avocados and sweet potatoes, and glimpses of white sandy bays in the distance far below.Enjoy the ride.

A must for those who love hiking and exploring. We truly enjoyed our delightful hike in the vegetation along with the viewing station - WOW - terrific views and worth the hike. Also, when you finish the hike, you will be hot and sweaty so you must have a banana smoothie created by Jim. The Best!!! And we had a virgin banana smoothie - so creamy & yummy. You will know him when you meet him. A delight to chat with.

Amazing place to see. The vegetation is very interesting even if one is not a specialist. Be prepared for some rain and a little mud after. From time to time when the forest opens the view is magnificent too.
