we visited as part of an organised boat ride with Seavis Tours in Bayahibe. We took a river boat up a section of the river where we saw Osprey, Vulture, Turtles along with many other birds. The views were breathtaking and it was so serene and peaceful. I could have spent all day on the boat watching the world pass me by. A lovely way to see the wildlife on the move.

Relaxing, quit, beautiful, greenish a touch to nature. Romantic... A dream! Travelers should be aware of the need to ware confutable shoes, because of the rocky pavement.

Beautiful views of the river from the cliffs and restaraunt of Altos de Chavon. One can see the small boats go up and down the river as they head out to the mouth of the river, outside Casa de Campo

Up and down river on the boat excursion and realistically, the only thing to see are really tall cliffs on each side, thats all!

Had a great time on a wood riverboat going down the Chavon River. This is where Anaconda, Acapolypse Now and Rambo were filmed. The scenery is breathtaking. The riverboat cruise was fun. They chopped real coconuts and we drank from them, they had Latin music that we danced too as well. Very hospitable.

We took a speed boat and drove through the area. Beautiful and breath taking. Crystal clear waters! You get to see natural untouched area of DR.

Awesome trip packed with activities for the full day. Tour of Chevon, boat ride up the river, catamaran to Isal Catalina, snorkeling, beach lobster BBQ, then sail back. Awesome way to spend the day.

After an hour looking at the village of Altos de Chavon, our cruise group boarded a river paddle boat which sailed up the river for half and hour and then returned, for a total of one hour on this river. It was a January morning, but hot already at 88 degrees by 11am. Complimentary drinks, both alcoholic and cola, were immediately served by the young crew. Seating was around tables on chairs so conducive for chatting while viewing the surrounding landscape. There was a covered top deck also so I found there were plenty of choices for seats. I could walk around to change seats or drag my chair into the shady side of the boat. The boat appeared to be freshly painted in white so very clean looking. The lush landscape on either side of the river didn't change with tropical trees, grasses, and mangroves growing along the riverside. The river was very calm without any mosquitoes annoying us. However, a pesky bee did find our beer drinks appealing enough to stay a while. We saw some people out fishing, with one in that group taking a dive into the dark green water to cool off. The water didn't look appealing to me at all for swimming, however. We did see a few fish jumping out of the water so I hope this group had success in fishing. As our boat floated on the river, we could see the buildings from the Altos de Chavon on the hill above. As we moored the boat we could see the ocean water ahead. I don't know if this river was tidal. The one hour trip was timed just right.

I went on a kayaking excursion on Rio Chavron through Oceania cruises. I got the impression we were on an excursion that is offered through the resort that the river runs through. I was very disappointed because I had been led to believe we were going to be going on a river through a dense jungle. The area the river went through was not a dense jungle. It was nothing special at all. And the people in charge of the tour did not give us any instruction. They just told us to put on the vests and follow them. We did not go very far down the river, so maybe the kayaking tour misses the best part of he river.

We spent 2 hours kayaking on this river. We enjoyed the exercise after a large cruise ship breakfast. But I cannot imagine why anyone would want to go on a boat or kayak trip on this river. The vegetation is sparse, except in a few instances; the water is muddy. There are a few large houses 200 feet above the river that one can ogle from afar.During our entire 2 hours, we saw no people, no animals, no fish; we literally just paddled up and down an ugly river. Our guide pointed out one viewing opportunity during the entire trip---a bee hive far above the surface of the water. So we paid $100 each to get some exercise and see an unimpressive bee hive. This trip is marketed as if one is going into a jungle-like ambiance akin to what one has seen in movie adventures. Instead the river is very wide, and we saw nothing at all that even remotely looked like the setting in Apocalypse Now.

River was used in a bunch of movies representing all parts of the world. Nice views and very calming. Lots of expensive houses overlooking the shores

We took a riverboat ride down this river. The water is very dark, but the life along the river is amazing. There arent predators in the river (snakes, gators, etc) or leeches so many movies have been filmed here. You can see a great deal of wildlife along the river as well as farmers, fishermen, and local canoers. We enjoyed the peaceful pace and the calm relaxing river. It was worth a visit!

it's pretty but there's no infrastructure except a few shacks selling local fare, no restaurants or organised boat tours. The locals use it to bathe and party but it could be made more inclusive and fun.
