We had read quite a few reviews that safety is a concern on this hike and to avoid bringing valuables. We walked up to Cerro de la Cruz on a Saturday afternoon and there was a steady flow of locals (many families) and tourists. We didn't see any police officers but we felt perfectly safe the entire time. Go here!

This is a very easy hike up a hill on the outskirts of Antigua. If you are looking for a nature-loving hike this is not it as the entire path is paved and is mostly stairs. Once you do reach the cross you are rewarded with a view overlooking all of Antigua. Definitely worth the time.

This is an easy 30mins walk from the Plaza, greta views and good way to orientate yourself in the city.

This is an amazing place to view the city of Antigua Guatemala, this is the Panchoy Valley (Valle de Panchoy) where the City was founded in 1543 under the name Santiago de los Caballeros de Goathemalan, capital of the Spanish Colony of Guatemala which was a large region that included almost all of present-day Central America and the southernmost State of Mexico: Chiapas. So much history in one square kilometer right in front of your eyes when you reach Cerro de la Cruz. This is a very nice place with nothing but the view, it is better to come by car at day time, use common sense safety precautions as in any other isolated place, avoid sunset or night unless you come in a large group of people. Good to visit for about 2-3 hours to enjoy the view, good idea to bring some binoculars.

El Cerro de LA Cruz gives a nice view of the city but avoid it on weekends when it is overrun with people. Avoid it at night and earlr morning because of the robberies that have taken place. But it is safe during the day because a police officer is usually on duty there.

Easy to find the path and it doesn't take long to walk up to the top. I've heard it can be dangerous on the path so don't take valuables. A great view of Antigua & it's free!

A short 20-30 minute walk from Le Merced church, through a quaint neighbourhood and up a reasonable stairway of 4" tall steps this is definitely worth the minor effort for a great view of Antigua with Volcano Agua in the background. Nice park for a picnic lunch.

This is a great place when you can have a beautiful cityscape of Antigua Guatemala. You can stay there for hours just imagining how the life was some centuries ago. There are police taking care of tourists, till 18:00.

We'd read the usual warning about safety when walking but it seemed perfectly safe to us exchanging buenos dias with locals as we walked up the hill and in the wooded part there was an obvious police presence as a deterrent. Its just the views, and they are worth the walk.

Mindful of the reports of muggings we left our valuables back in the hotel and made the short uphill walk to the cross from town. We needn't have worried, there was a conspicuous police presence and we felt perfectly safe - and when we got to the cross I wished I'd brought my camera as the view of Antigua is outstanding! We went at 2.30pm on a Monday afternoon and there were a handful of other tourists and vendors there at that time.

Once you finally get up on this hill, you will see that the cross is not what lures folks up there. The views of Antigua are awesome. You can see everything. You can even see the volcanoes off to the side - Volcan Fuego spouting out smoke. Don't miss this place.

This spot is near and dear to my heart. I would run up to the cross almost daily while in Antigua. The view of the city is amazing and there are always people there during the day on picnics, selling merchandise, and enjoying the view. It is a beautiful spot during the day, but is dangerous at night. I would highly recommend it to anyone willing to climb the stairs to get to it! It's more than worth it.

We had a taxi arranged to bring us here but the taxi driver dropped us to the bottom of the hill as opposed to the top. We didn't know any different. Make sure, however, that your taxi driver brings you to the top as the path we walked is apparently notorious for muggings. 4 days beforehand, some tourists were mugged at gun point- we didn't know this until afterwards as we had been assured that we were being brought to the safe part. At the top of the hill, it is a large open space. If you are dropped where there are trees, that is not the top. Aside from these issues, the views of Antigua and the volcanoes were great. Well worth going to see and great photos opportunities.

This relatively short hike (333 steps I think) is well worth the view of the entire city and Volcan Agua at the top. My 6 year old son had no problem doing this little hike. I was surprised to learn once at the top that you can also drive up the back side and that there are vendors selling things at the top. They were not aggressive, however.

When you walk up the Cerro de la Cruz, pick a day with clear sky. It will reward you with a great view of the whole town of Antigua, with the Agua volcano on the opposite side of town. The path uphill is all in a forest, so you can also easily make it up on a sunny day. Going there at nighttime or not using the official path is forbidden because too many people where robbed, but during the day there are so many people (also local families who go there for a picknick) that it is really safe.
