Amazing- awe inspiring, humbling, i still cannot believe i took the same path as the ancient Egyptians. Our guide was incredible Mohamed El Aswany- his breadth of knowledge was incredible and he brought it all to life...just amazing.

For those who had never been to the Karnak temple I would not recommend to visit the Luxor temple first - the Karnat temple is bigger and more impressive. Although, the Luxor temple is full of interesting stories, connected with it, and the decoration there is more elaborate.

Interesting temple with varied styles from Greek, Romans and Egyptians. Tells some great stories and brings the history to life. Definitely use a guide.

Luxor Temple is predominantly New Kingdom in date. Two very special scenes are the Birth Scene of the king Amenophis III and the wonderful but now badly faded Opet Festival reliefs on each side of the colonnade. Luxor Temple too was a Roman garrison and the soft colours of the painting of the Emperors has been beautifully restored. The best time to visit is in the afternoon when the light is gentle. It can also be a wonderful time to see kites above the First Pylon which is where they nest.

The incredible Luxor Temple dates from ca. 1392 B.C. Situated on the Nile, some of the spectacular sites are the Avenue of Sphinxes, the first pylon, Ramesses' statues, an 80 ft. (25 m) obelisk, courtyards, colonades, other statues, 14 huge, papyrus-topped columns, numerous other columns, shrines, a mosque, and much more. I was fortunate to visit in the evening, with the temple illuminated. The lighting actually seemed to accentuate the etched details. Luxor Temple is yet another example of the ingenuity and skills of the ancient Egyptians. Entrance to the temple is inexpensive. Entirely awe-inspiring, and highly recommended.

A real mix of lots of different times in history present here. Imposing photo opportunities. Try to leave enough free time to sit back and soak up the atmosphere. Lots of working going on here so will return sometime in the future for great things.

I remember visiting the Luxor Temple with my parents when I was 18. It was crowded there, as it was near all touristic sites in Egypt. Now people stay away, even though the riots happen in Cairo, 400 km up north. When I visited the Luxor Temple again in September there was nobody else there except for one young couple. We had the place all to ourselves and got the most interesting explanations and stories from our guide there. About the history of the temple and the struggles it faces today due to lack of tourism.

There is an overwhelming amount of history to be seen here. So much to learn! We had a guide with us which was so incredibly helpful. There are many many stories that are carved and painted on the temple walls. We wouldn't have gotten nearly as much from the experience without our guide. Truly a must do if in Luxor or really just in Egypt in general!

A beautiful Temple especially when lit up at night. All of Ancient Egypt shown in its walls and columns. Also a mosque still used today high up in one wall and a Christian part with lovely paintings on the wall. it seems to envelope many different beliefs in one building. When you visit just be aware of people at the entrance selling things and some begging but you get this at any site . With so few visitors it is difficult to make a living from tourists. But most of the problems seem to be in the North of Egypt and few in Luxor. We felt safe and people welcomed us.

Very very cool temple with lots of panels and evidence of reuse through time. Bring a guide so you can decipher all the stories this place has to tell. There are contributions from pharaohs, emperors, and squatters alike, and some of it is just amazingly well preserved. So much to learn here, and so much art to simply admire. An absolute must-visit.

So huge and so old. The sun is going down while we are here and the light through the columns is stunning. Again jaw dropping and we can't stop smiling.
