This is a great little farm to visit. Across the Potomac from Mount Vernon, it's a nice drive from DC and I'd assume fun for families. On our recent visit there we got to see feeding time: the calf (Bonita, a "total puppy" as described by one staff member), pigs and chickens. It was loud! The animals are clearly well cared-for. One bummer: the parking lot is unattended and when we were there a few vehicles had their windows smashed, which could put a total damper on your day. Perhaps the farm will add some kind of parking lot monitor.

A quite and beautiful place to stop by if you happen to be in the area. It will bring you back to imagine how an ordinary tobacco farmer family might have lived during the Colonial time. It has a working farm with farm animals and crop, a display garden that contrasts the "necessity stomach fulfilling growing" of a typical working-class family vs. the "appeasing of the eyes and nose growing" of a English garden. An added bonus is the scenic view of the Potomac river and the front seat view of Mt. Vernon across.

This is a beautiful spot with a view across the Potomac River of Mount Vernon, a view not many see. The viewshed of the Maryland shoreline a feature of Mount Vernon of which they are most proud. The National Colonial Farm, located in Piscataway National Park, is a major contributor in making this viewshed possible. The National Colonial Farm, as its name implies, has a working farm modeled on the animal breeds, crops, and agricultural methods of the the typical farm in Colonial America.

I wouldn't make a long drive for this destination, but if you're nearby, it's a lovely property with nice trails and a great view across the Potomac.
