We stopped in and enjoyed listening to a group singing sea shanties. Bring a dollar bill or to leave tacked to the wall. A true original. Pool tables in the back. No beer on draft but a good selection of Alaskan brews alongside the usual Bud.

In Homer Spit this place is an icon open since 1957... just a little old lighthouse, small doors and two rooms one with a pool table. When entering into the "dark" you'll see nothing but walls and ceiling cover with thousands of dollar bills signed by clients from over the world. With an strange atmosphere that makes us appreciate a good Alaskan beer the place has an unique characteristics, where clients and locals struck up a conversations faster than I drink my bottle of bear ... very nice. The staff is friendly & polite, always ready to serve you no matter the crowd and noise around.Tip: have fun and drink the local Homer beer, sold nowhere else but in Homer. Smoke area outside.

Very cool place to visit. It is a must if you are in Homer. The folks who work there are super friendly and the beer is cold. It can get crowded, but we had a great time.

People stop here just to say they've been here! Friendly service the few times I've gone. Don't expect a classy, upscale wine bar; this place has underwear and bras hanging on the wall and graffiti written on the bathroom walls. They repaint once a year. You can also write on a dollar and place it on the walls, ceilings or wherever you can reach. They donate the dollars that you put on the some of the lifesavers they have hanging on the walls which is pretty cool, so ask the bartender about this. It's a good place to grab a beer with a friend before you bum around the spit.

This is a must if you are in the vicinity. I found the bartender to be very welcoming from the minute I walked in the door. He was also very knowledgeable and willing to talk about local history. The place is covered with dollar bills signed with visitors names or comments. So, sit at the bar, grab a sharpie they provide, pull a dollar bill from your pocket, and become part of their history.

Located on the spit, this is a fun place to stop for a couple of drinks. Friendly patrons and staff. Be sure to leave a dollar bill behind - with a personalized note.

This is one of those places that you have to see even if you don't buy anything. The lady bartender was great, explained the history behind the thousands of dollar bills taped, stapled, nailed, thumbtacked and attached to almost every surface of the walls, ceilings, doors and other surfaces. Customers were the exact clones of characters you've met in every other touristy bar, but still very friendly and delightful to talk with.No food here, but they can certainly help you celebrate your visit to Homer, drown your sorrows, or assist you with any other problems with excessive thirst.

You have to stop at this favorite spot, grab a beer, and leave a one dollar bill on the wall with your name on it! It's a fun place to visit. It's a must if you are visiting the Spit! Cheers

We heard about the dollar bills covering the walls, but we never expected SO MANY, taking up just about every available space of this small bar. About the only things not covered in dollar bills were the bar stools, benches, and tables, and from the looks of it, that'll happen soon too. It almost feels like the dollar bills are closing in on you -- it's almost claustrophobic. Yeah, definitely worth a stop, even if just for a quick beer and a few photos. I don't think a visit to Home Spit would be complete without it.

This place has lots of character and is open all year. It is covered with dollar bills all over and at the end of the year they donate all the money to the employees favorite charity. The salty dog is a grapefruit and vodka with salt around the rim. Fun atmosphere.

This is a must see spot if you are in town. It's a small bar located on the spit. They had your usual beer selection and a decent price. The second you walk in the door you are overwhelmed with dollar bills all over the walls and ceilings. It was really cool to see. I would have given it 5 stars, but the bar only offered bottle beer, and I enjoy beer on tap.

Stopped in to use their free WiFi on a cruise ship stop. They ran a free shuttle from the dock area to a spot beside the bar. It is at least mile (or so) walk from the cruise dock. This area where the bar is located is called the Split. There are other stores/restaurants there too. The Salty Dawg Saloon is a neat place. It is basically a small trendy place. The prices are reasonable, and people are friendly. There was one TV at the bar that had ESPN on and a pool table in a small back room. Unlike what another reviewer said about removing them and donating the money to charity; dollar bills were tacked everywhere, and there were thousands of them, and many looked like they had been there for decades. Some were several layers deep, i.e. dollar bills tacked over dollar bills. They have jars of tacks on the tables so you can easily add one too. In Alaska my Tracfone (cell phone) didn't work, it uses the CDMA system used by Verison/Sprint. Only the GSM system used by ATT/T-Mobile worked there. However, there is a pay phone in the bar.

We went in and sat at the bar twice. The people working here are great. So pleasant and fun. The prices of the drinks are reasonable. Stop by just to take peek and buy a souvenir. Fun time to sit and meet locals and people from around the world. Snack bags of chips, peanuts and such for sale.

Went in here on my own, stood at the bar , everyone was so friendly, bar ladies, locals, tourists all chatting and chilling.Great atmosphere, fun bar with lots of $1 pinned everywhere, apparently those on the wall are taken down at the end of the year and given to charity, last year it came to around $47,000 GO BEER DRINKERS, this just has to be a must when in Homer.

We always stop here and it does start with some eye rolling, but it is a great bar to stop for one drink and to rest tired legs or sea legs. Put $1 up, I know you want to and then watch people come in and try to locate the dollar they put up 10 years ago. Great entertainment and a nice little break.
