Eaglecrest is a pretty great ski resort. While not the biggest mountain they have decent lift ticket prices and the place is very well maintained! They also host a lot of events so check out their calendar before heading up!

Aside from Eaglecrest, I have skiied at Altenmarkt in Austria, Purgatory in Colorado, Mt. Baldy in So. Cal, NorthStar in No. Cal, Jay Peak in Vermont, Whistler in BC, Snoqualmie in WA, and Hilltop and Alyeska in Alaska.I think Eaglecrest is by far my favorite. Perhaps it is because I started skiing there and I knew the mountain well, but I believe that if you can ski Eaglecrest you have will have experienced one of the best mountains in the world.

...our local mountain! It's typically amazing snow and zero lift lines. Nice laid back atmosphere and you feel like you're part of the EC family when riding.

I'm not a skier, but my wife and I have driven up the mountain just for the views. It's prettiest on the way back down, when you can clearly discern the silty stream coming into the ocean from the Mendenhall Glacier melt off. There's a progression of tree species as you ascend to full elevation, and back down to sea level again. We occasionally see critters near the road, but mostly vested and helmeted mountain bikers, who are bused to the top and released to coast back down. As a ski resort, I'm told that Eaglecrest is administered by the municipal parks and recreation department, which is a nice service to financially slim local skiers and snowboarders. There's a bus that picks up from several locations in the Valley, for kids who are too young to drive, I guess.

Eaglecrest is a very good ski area, with the best downhill opportunities (ski and rreat groomed X-C ski trains also; lift lines are short. From the top you can see water on both sides. The access road is ok, and there's a bus because it's about 7 miles out of town. This has produced at least one Olympic medalist and many other great skiers.

Not enough snow for skiing, but the drive there was an opportunity to get out of the downtown cruise ship area. Enroute, I noticed a colorful fence made of old skiis. The zipline company uses some of the ski facilities.

Have skied here for the past 25 years-- great mountain, fun people, challenging runs and lots of off piste.

The only ski hill in town. The menu at Eaglecrest is limited and the food is standard fried fast food but it is good, cheap, fresh and there is plenty of it.

We drove over to Douglas Island, headed north, and turned to climb up to the ski lift on a very good road through the forest. Snow was still heavy in the forest in May and its melting created numerous waterfalls and bustling streams. Delightfully, we were the only ones on the road. We stopped often to take photographs. It is a very beautiful drive and is only about 30 minutes from Juneau to the top.

I understand it's a scenic spot to drive and hike for free in the summer. During ski season it is a busy place, with affordable passes, rentals and lessons. The employees are well-trained, efficient, and friendly. Thanks to the generous support of Juneau's citizens, whose taxes pay the cost of owning and operating Eaglecrest, the price of a day pass and gear may be less than you expect -- about what you would pay for 18 holes of golf on a PGA sanctioned course, or a week's worth of groceries. The runs range from easy to very challenging, and the wait at the lifts is usually not bad. If you like to ski or board you will love this place. It's easy to get to from the town and is lots of fun. But, while the out of doors experience lives up to the description "world class" outside, the indoors experience is the polar opposite. I"ve heard the lodge described as "no frills," but that is too kind. A bus station is "no frills," and there are bus stations with better food and more comfortable seating than Eaglecrest Lodge. Upstairs there is a seating area reserved for preferred customers, protected by a chain from entry by others. I have not confirmed this, but it is said that from its windows one can see some of the action outside. The rest of the building was designed with almost no windows, and none with views of slopes. The only bright spot in the lodge experience is the excellent espresso stand, but if you are able to pass out or otherwise achieve sleep on a hard soggy floor in noisy, overcrowded conditions, skip the coffee. Although unlikely to occur, sleeping through it completely would be the best way to endure a period of time in Eaglecrest Lodge that lasts more than one hour.

Situé dans un décor de rêve, le domaine n'est pas très grand mais certaine pistes sont très compliqué (bien plus qu'en France) et donc on prend son temps pour les apprécier. De plus il n'y a d'attente au remonté. Parfait pour une journée de ski !
