A well-marked trail around the entire lake, around 9 miles or so, with some great views, and some nice streams and a palisades at the far end.

We recently camped at Lake Como before driving across the Magruder Corridor. The campground was clean, the host was friendly and helpful, and the lake was gorgeous! We had a wonderful evening, first watching the sun set while we dangled our feet in the crystal clear water of the lake, then enjoying a campfire while the stars came out. This is a great campground for families!

We went out to Montana for a graduation. My sister and BIL brought us out to Lake Como for an afternoon picnic and dinner camp fire. The place was breathtaking! With the snow capped mountains and the tranquil, calm lake...it was picture perfect. Our party of 9 had such a wonderful time. We rented out one of the larger cabins that overlooked the lake and it was like our own little getaway from everything. We were told how busy this place gets in the summer/warmer months, which is understandable. We were there in early May and the place was quiet and very much enjoyable.

We enjoyed picnicking by this lovely lake. The snowcapped mountains surrounding the lake add to its beauty. The day we were there it was very crowded with no picnic tables available in a couple of the areas. So, bring a few blankets and pull up a stump or two and enjoy the scenery. That's what we ended up doing and it made our visit there even more of an adventure!

If you enjoy boating (of all types, from high-power through canoes) this is a great facility. There's a very comfortable beach on the NE side of the lake, just a walk across the earthen dike. Good facilities for families (vehicle parking, restrooms, some shade trees, extensive sandy beachfront). We didn't get away back on the hiking trails as some of the other reviewers did so bear in mind the limitations of this review.

We did the 7 mile hike around Lake Como in the gorgeous Bitterroot Mountains of Western Montana...lovely hike and wonderful scenery...what more could you ask?!

A beautiful drive up and we loved the serenity of the snow covered landscape and the lake. A different perspective than summer.

Visited Lake Como Recreation Area in April so the south side of the trail was snowed over. Did the 3 mile walk on the north side of the lake to the waterfall and back. (6 miles total)The path is high above the waterline but well taken care of and a beautiful easy walk. There is a restroom at each parking area. I highly recommend the hike and Lake Como. Come prepared ,as for any hike. There is a fee in the summer months but not when I was there.

Lake Como is a lovely alternative "water feature" to the Bitterroot River and many creeks in the valley. Set at the base of the Como Peaks, there is a nice beach for hot summer days and cross-country skiing trails in the winter. There is camping in the summer months, but no concessions. The fee is for parking. The hike around the lake is a perfect length--about 7 miles. The trail on the north side is paved part of the way with benches to sit and rest...and maybe see a moose or two. There's a nice little cascade at the west end of the lake and the trail on the south side climbs a little higher for views.

Lake Como is a large lake with camping, hiking, biking, boating (motor to kyaking), and horseback riding. The view is spectacular with the Como Peaks. The weather can change fast so you always want to be ready. Wildlife is abundent from deer, elk, moose, coyotes, and possibly a wolf. It is a great destination.

No matter if it is summer or winter a trip to Lake Como is worthwhile. The lake is lovely in the spring and summer months, and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking year-round. A trial around the lake is approximately 7 miles and well worth the effort. Don't worry, it's a fairly easy hike with even some paved portions at the beginning. In the summer the campground and boating ramps are open for visitors. There are even two cabins available for rental. This is a very popular spot for locals and visitor alike.

Its the only "beach" for miles. We do wish we could take the dog. We had family visiting with 2 younger girls and we had a blast playing in the sand and visiting.

The Lake is in a wonderful setting surrounded by mountain peaks and so quiet. We spent an hour here after our night in Darby MT and there was just a man and his son fishing on the other side of the lake, you could of heard a pin drop a mile away, it's that quiet. Want a little time out to relax, or a quiet picnic, here you go !

We hiked around Lake Como on a Sunday in July -- that was a mistake. The lake was buzzing with motorboats and jet skis. This isn't what I'm used to experiencing on a mountain hike, and it was pretty disappointing. However, the trail was beautiful and the visit to the falls at the end of the lake was well worth the trek. A couple of days later we came back for a swim at the beach -- it was wonderful! The beach and picnic area are well maintained, and water was refreshing and so very clear. What a wonderful respite on a hot summer day!

Lake Como can get very crowded during the summer, but is a total delight when the autumn arrives. A quiet paddle around the lake is accompanied by many different bird calls and the occasional peek at wildlife on shore. The hiking trails become less congested. ( A Montana "congested" is very different from a California "congested")
