Our new-to-us home had landscaping that had been neglected for a while. We visited Vintage Hill to first get some ideas for the many projects we were envisioning. Our first trip was in the spring. Not only were there copious varieties of every annual, perennial and decorative items to choose from, but there were also knowledgeable, friendly people to help us understand which plant or flower did best in our light and soil. We returned in summer to select our first of many-to-come items for a spot in our yard. Jeff gave us directions on planting in the clay soil and then walked us to the shrubs and evergreens that would most likely do the best. We chose a pretty butterfly bush and are getting ready to plant it. Can't wait for us to get the next phase of our project prepared so we can once again pick out just the right items to complete it. We will bring a soil sample and printed picture along with dimensions and know we'll be more than pleased with the results. Be prepared to spend some time...it is worth it!

Travel west from Columbia on Highway 40 through the rich farming land of the Missouri River to enjoy a greenhouse experience that is truly unique. And it is an experience! Located at the top of a Highway 87 hill, you will see a large sign marking the VIntage Hill Farm entrance. Travel slowly through the imposing gates because you won't want to miss the foals at play in the "nursery pasture." You will be welcomed by the four-legged security team (better know as the greeters) of Corgis who will escort you to the greenhouses. You will want to stroll leisurely in order to enjoy the panorama of fruit trees, shrubs, conifers, pottery, and blooming plants before you. At this point you likely will have been abandoned by the Corgis (unless you have treats!). But that's OK, because as you enter the large greenhouse, your senses will be flooded by the wonderful fragrance and vivid color of an array of plants you won't find anywhere else.. From unusual tropicals, succulents, herbs, annuals; from the newest varieties and colors to the old-fashioned-haven't-seen-this-since-my-grandmother's-garden, there's everything you need to satisfy your gardener's heart and soul. Stop a moment to speak to the McCaws--don't be surprised if they answer. Organized by sun and shade, each in their own greenhouse, the perennials range from Acanthus (Bears Breeches) to Yucca. The vegies live in a separate greenhouse; and you'll see many heritage types. This brings us to the roses of Vintage Hill--every color, size and shape. Climbers, drifts and antique varieties abound. And I haven't even mentioned the blooming shrubs or the great customer service provided by the staff. Take time to visit the peacocks, the exotic chickens and koi/lily pool. Ask Jeff for suggestions on designing your pots--he has a great eye for combinations that will have your neighbors complimenting you on your great taste. I'd rate this place a ten if I could. Don't miss it.

When you walk into the biggest of their greenhouses, you'll be amazed at the array of plant types and varieties. I've not seen this assortment in major city greenhouses! I've purchased plants and shrubs from Vintage Hill and they continue to thrive in my yard. Pat the friendly resident Corgis, be amused by the parrots, and try to fit everything you want to buy there in your vehicle! It's a great place to visit, even if you aren't in the market to do landscaping.

If you are traveling anywhere from Columbia, MO to Kansas City, this is a definite must see! Just a little off the highway, this garden center is beautiful. Unique plants, beautiful flowers, and a wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Jeff takes his time to answer your questions, and gives you a tour of all the exciting things he has grown there. Pricing is great for the items you will not find anywhere else. I like having things that cannot be bought at a big store. I will definitely be back. The Scottish Higland Cattle, the beautiful horses, the exotic birds, and juist the friendly atmosphere make it a great place overall.

I also heard of this location thru TripAdvisor and stopped there on our girls weekend trip to Rocheport. We all love walking around gardening centers so it was a good stop for us. I really expected, however, that there be some signs in the area directing us to the location.....and there weren't. We actually nearly drove past it since there as no signage at the entrance. The selection is very good for plants, but the prices are higher than you will pay at Home Depot, Lowes or Walmart. There are numerous greenhouses, plus a large selection of garden statuary (also priced high), but it is a relaxing atmosphere. We didn't see any of the long-haired cattle while we were there, but there are some exotic birds in one of the greenhouses, so kids will love seeing them. The rose selection looked exceptional. Very large, healthy plants. Kinda doubt I will go back, but a good one-time visit if you are in the area.

We found this place reviewed on TA, and were looking for something to see on a chilly fall Saturday. It is a little drive out of town, but the fall color was nice on that day. Once we found the greenhouse, we enjoyed about an hour looking around. Of course, it was the end of the season for planting, but they had nice fall decor, mums, pumpkins, gourds, etc. The gentleman in the greenhouse really made our trip special, though. He was so knowledgeable, and made sure to point out interesting things that we might have missed - a certain cactus that was unsual, and had just bloomed on that day, a passion flower vine which I had never seen and had the most amazing flowers. They have some birds, parrots, etc, which were colorful and loud. We did see some of the Highland Cattle in a field as we were leaving. Overall, we very much enjoyed the visit!

A bit of a drive, but well worth the trip. Vintage Hill is perched on top of a hill with beautiful views all around. Not only does the owner, Jeff, have exquisite taste in amazing plants, but the Highland Cattle, the horses, the Corgies, peacocks and unusual fowl make for an unforgettable experience. The owner, Jeff is about as knowlegeable and friendly as they come. A trip into nearby Fayette to have lunch or dinner at Emmet's Kitchen and Tap is a great finish to a trip.

This is really the most beautiful greenhouse I've ever seen. I love to come here just to get out of my house.....

Vintage Hill might not be easy to find, but once you get there, you'll find something you need. Their plants are a little pricey, but they are good quality.
