Our family came to Greensboro to visit from PA. We decided to go to Red Oak Brewery. It was crowded and we had to wait in a small lobby. The entire tour consisted of the brew master talking. We stood in two crowded rooms seeing virtually nothing. They were not bottling anything so we just saw machines standing still. The samples were handed out in the lobby -no place to sit. After standing in hot rooms for almost two hours all we could think of was going home. We never got our free glass and only got one sample. My legs and feet were aching. So disappointed. Not worth $15.00 each

BEST BEER EVER! Enough said.Smooth, full flavor, refreshing. The guys who work at the brewery are a hoot! Go for a Friday tour and let them crack you up, then finish by tasting some of this amazing beer. Even friends of ours that say "I don't like beer" try this and say "um ok I didn't know beer could taste good."

Tour only Friday 3: pm. Brewmaster from true German heritage and brewing degrees. This is non pasteurized true brew in the German tradition. Excellent tour of how beer is brewed and tasting after tour. Tasting, in fact very generous tasting and a souvenir glass and Red Oak Ale opener. Price is $15 for tour with about 100 people on tour and everyone left with a big smile on their face. Recommend. Did I mention generous tasting?

While visiting friends in Greensboro, they took us to a 3:00 PM brewery tour at Red Oak. This tour is apparently given (at $10.00 bucks a head) once a week, on Friday afternoon. I suspect that reservations are a very good idea. The tour started pretty much on time. Brewmeister Chris Buckley did a very commendable job of telling us how the micro-brewery came to be and where they wanted to go. In between, he told us how beer is made at their brewery, and made some interesting comparisons to other processes. It gave me a new perspective on beer. (and the next day our friends brewed their own beer which was yet another angle on the process). But I digress.Brewmesiter also was very open to questions, and I had a few which I felt he addressed in a very straightforward manner. The rest of the crowd did not seem so inquisitive as I, but it may be because they were from a fraternity at WFU ... and were more interested in the tasting thereafter. We spent an hour after the tour sampling 3 very good brews that RO makes. I was inpressed with each of them. Even the very dark beer was quite palitable. Each was fresh and smooth. Not too little hops, not too much. And after all is said and done, you can buy half-gallon glass containers of your favorite(s) as you prepare to leave. No kidz, of course. Bring an ID. Have a great time!
