I saw the Old Mason Winery sign on I-75 South and decided to check this place out. The tasting room is located well off the West Milton exit, then follow the signs. The exterior made me think I was in the wrong place, with a gravel drive, a dump truck to the side of the building, and only the large sign in the front lawn area to hint that I made it, but I noticed an OPEN sign and strolled in around lunchtime on a Monday. Donna warmly greeted me into the large tasting room, answered my questions, and helped me pick a flight. Old Mason has flights of five in 1 oz or 2 oz tastes. Many flavors from which to choose. I tried a mix with one being an apple mix, another being a sweet raspberry taste, and one very shy peach blend. All delicious! I prefered and purchased a bottle of the Statesman wine. Very excellent pink blush color, sweet taste. The 1 oz flight was enough to give me an idea of the wines without putting me on my back in the middle of the day (low tolerance). Though it's a little off the beaten path from town, this is definitely a place to check out. The owners rent out the balcony area of the tasting room, and there are events with live music and art nights, overall a lot of fun to be had! I'll definitely be back!

This is the summer that my wife and I learned that we enjoy visiting small vineyards and sampling their products. Having given business to vintners in Vermont and central Ohio, I thought it would be only right to give some business to our own locale.Old Mason is a little over one year old, it's the only vineyard honestly close to Dayton, Ohio. Drive there through some lovely Ohio flatland; look sharp to the south of route 571 just before the turn to appreciate the elk farm there. Their facility is OK, not as fascinating as some other vineyards we've visited; a nice large indoor area with lots of comfy tables, and a gravel patio where you can look at their vines. We ordered a couple of tasting flights and got to sample most of what they produce. On the serious side, their Sauvignon Franc is a solid dry red that my wife immediately wanted to pair with some prime rib; Sunlight is a mature dry white with none of the unpleasant overtones that often come in that part of the wine spectrum; Niagara is a full-bodied semi-sweet with a broad citrus-melon character; Sweet Reisling is not really so sweet, a nice traditional Reisling. On the dessert wine side, they make a Concord that again proves that Concord is hard to mess up--it's perhaps a bit more polite than Mogen David. Then there's Statesman, a dry-sweet blend with flavors that reminded of of those respectable Portugeuse rose wines, Mateus or Lancer's. They also have three types of fruit-infused wine, Raspberry, Apple, Peach--my wife tried hem and liked them, and I made lame jokes about Boone's farm. They offer a small selection of food items--various breads, some crackers, several flavors of cheese curd, and some sliced summer sausage. That's the range of their business. No gift shop, no dining menu, no entertainment except for the C&W music on the sound system that must please the locals who seem to agree that this is a nice spot to drop in and have a glass or three. My overall reaction is that they make some really good wines for all tastes, especially those with a yen for the sweeter varieties. If you're a winery buff like I've become, and you're near Dayton, Ohio, this is well worth the modest drive.

We loved this place! We spent an afternoon on the patio with friends that was just grand. They where extremely friendly and what a nice space to enjoy their wine and snacks inside or out. We likes the Sweet American Riesling and the cheese spread was delicious. This place will just get better as it grows, We have been across the US in many wineries and would a recommend a stop if you are nearby.

If you enjoy an easy-going, casual experience > this is the place. The owners are super friendly and genuine, especially Donna. You can bring a loaf of bread. crackers, veggies and cheese * order a flight of samplers of their wines and sit in the cozy tasting room or on the back patio w/ a vu of the vineyard. Only open since April of 2013, so the exterior landscaping is still in progress. Forget it! - pull into the lot right up to the building and expect an enjoyable experience.
