We got a little more to the story when we asked where Mr. Austin was buried. The house is nice with good period pieces.

This has to be the one of the most historic spots of ground that I think I have ever stood on. Some of the most famous generals of either the Confederate or the Yankee armies, were in this house, and it will make the hair on your neck stand up to walk in their footsteps. Ladies, even if you don't like history but your husband wants to drag you along with him to yet another Civil War site, don't fret....this house has been decorated with such pretty, authentic, antique furnishings, that you will enjoy the tour and the beautiful scenery around it, even if you aren't exactly a Civil War buff.

Viewing the Clisby Austin House, built in 1848, is just one aspect of a tour of the Western and Atlantic Railroad Tunnel. The house has been a private residence until recently and is filled with some beautiful antiques. Even if they are not Civil War pieces, they are certainly worth seeing. The house served as a hospital during the Battle of Chickamauga, and they display a bench, used during that time, with very dark blood stains on it. The house was also Sherman's HQ during the Battle of Dalton, and one of the upstairs bedrooms is reputed to be where Sherman slept. It's a beautiful house, and we thoroughly enjoyed Hub's commentary on each room and the various pieces of furniture. The composite tour: Heritage Center, House, and tunnel is a fascinating experience. Hub made it special.
