This castle, which has seen action, dates back to the times when the Marches were a significant strategic region between Engkland and Wales. Influential building in that conflict, which has been well preserved, with some interesting exhibits. Great, but for some reason spooked the children a bit- they have got over it now. Surrounded by some lovely free gardens.

Reading about the history of Tamworth Castle is quite fascinating ,the views are great looking out across the Town and the Castle grounds ,it is quite steep to reach the top but well worth it when you are there.

Great value for money, the route through the castle was well signposted and each area was explained with interesting (and fun) historical background about the castle, the families whom have lived there and the surrounding district. Much more to see than expected, the Great Hall and Tower particularly interesting. Looked very well done to keep kids entertained also with dressing up, colouring etc.Should be open more in winter and better advertised. A hidden gem.Only one disappointment, the cafe and gift shop were closed for restocking, why cannot this be done outside of visitor hours.

Went in half term with friends and 6 kids aged 6 weeks to 5 years. The kids LOVED. The dragon hunt, and had so much fun on the way round. The exhibits are very interactive and many have signs encouraging the kids to interact and dress up. There are kids suits of armour which we must have spent half an hour playing with, fantastic! Lots to see and do, and the guides around the castle were great with the kids. Only thing of note was that buggies/pushchairs can access the castle, but once inside you have to leave them at the kiosk area because of e narrow corridors and numerous stairs. It wasn't a problem, but forewarned is forearmed, if you have kids that need a buggy or pushchair pack a sling, toddler carrier or baby carrier :) I think it would be good if they had a few loaners that you could borrow for a returnable security deposit! Don't forget to stop at the bottom of the hill and have a look at the dungeons! There are also the castle grounds and playgrounds nearby to explore, plus every kid in Tamworth growing up has run up and down the flowerbeds in front of the bandstand or had a photo taken sat on the cannons. Or, take some bread and feed the ducks and swans.

Me and my 2 1/2 year old went during half term to take part in the dragon hunt. The staff were really friendly and had put great time and effort into making the visit interesting and fun.It doesn't take much time to get around and see everything but what was there was made fun by the people involved.Well worth a few hours visit!

The castke was ok, but no where near a days worth. For over £20 for the family, I would expect it to last longer than an hour and a half, and that was stretched. Nice place but not for a day trip just an hour or 2 max.

A stunning castle, in excellent condition exemplifying original walls made from wattle and daub. Splendid displays showing historic rooms, with models depicting the different ages it has lived through. Tamworth history is told through your tour of the castle. A day out here would be of interest to people of all ages.

Learn about the history of Tamworth and its notable people. The castle is well presented with plenty of information on hand. You'll spend at least 2 hours viewing. It's one of the few castles that has the feeling of being lived-in about it. We went during half-term, so lots of children around and they had activities, such as 'Find the Dragon'. Very good experience.

Really good castle, great for kids, lots to do and see. This half term they had a dragon hunt and my kids were convinced by the lady making the dragon nest that ruby the dragon was real!!. Nice touch with the crafts and meeting ruby at the end. Staff were all fab, and a good playground in the castle grounds was a bonus!

I like the hands on displays where children can DO things instead of just looking but there is plenty to interest adults too while the children play.

We went to Tamworth castle in a last minute decision. We were visiting the nearby playground with our children (4 &7 years old). We had a fantastic time! It's a beautiful place and really interesting but what made it even better for us was that it even managed to entertain our boys!! The dressing up areas and things to do like brass rubbing etc are a brilliant idea and even mom and dad joined in The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I thoroughly recommend Tamworth castle to everyone, especially those, like us who don't live far away but have never visited. We intend to go to some of the upcoming events that are on offer too.

We came to Tamworth Castle to add to our extensive castle list of visits, something we enjoy. We knew the castle was not large, but when we came from our visit we were surprised what a little gem it actually is.The staff were excellent, knowledgeable and very friendly. But what i enjoyed was the whole experience, and what was impressive was the activities for children. This is most certainly a family friendly environment where families can enjoy an experience within a castle.Tamworth Castle is well worth a visit, and I strongly recommend it to families. Although we were a couple, it was still a wonderful experience. A big thank you to the staff and especially the kind gentleman on the gate.

Having forgotten my initial visit to this well preserved Castle from the age of 8, all the memories came flooding through upon today's visit. Not knowing a lot about Castles or much about the area, I did my homework and the staff certainly know their stuff A bit of a last minute decision but a well made one.Easily accessible into the Town with idiot proof sign posts that take you directly to the big castle on the hill.Parking is located directly to the bottom of the castle and very cheap, £1.50 for two hours I believe. Free on Bank holidays and Sundays Having taken my youngest who does require a stroller as his legs are incapable of carrying him more than 10 steps without him moaning, there is an alternative route to the castle entrance other than the stairs leading up which is perfect for strollers or wheelchairs. Once at the entrance I was greeted by friendly staff who did inform me that a stroller wouldn't be the best option due to the labyrinth of stair cases. My youngest (2) was suprisingly fine with walking as there's lots to do and interact with. You follow a route around the castle that leads you to every part so hard to get lost really. Could probably do with being sliiiiiiightly better sign posted as at some point it can become disorienting. Being the winter months the castle is only open at the weekend between 11:30am - 3:45 and relatively low numbers of staff which weren't a problem as they were very interactive and friendly. Free for my 2 yo and £7.00 for an adult which in my opinion is money well spent. After touring the castle, the grounds around it are open and vast with lots to do including parks and cafes. A fun day out even if it was cold. Lots to do and will defiantly be back as it warms up as I know the Castle host lots of different events and shows.

The staff are amazing and very knowledgeable. I have been here as a family and also as a Brownie group and both times the staff interacted with us. They are very enthusiastic and love to tell you about the history.
