On 31st October, 2014 we hired the day canal cruiser Otter. This boat is well fiited out with stove, sink, toilet, plates, cutlery etc and a comfortable interior if the weather is inclement. The Staff at the boat centre were very helpful and friendly. The boat was clean and well turned out. As the weather was excellent we headed up the Lee and then on to the River Stort. We managed to make the railway bridge at Roydon before deciding to return back. Unfortunately, we picked up a large rope/wire bundle on our propeller. Despite our efforts we could not clear the object. We called the boatyard and they turned up within 30 minutes with cutters. However, just before they arrived we had freed the propeller. We had a pleasant cruise back in the Autumn sunshine but arrived back at 4.30 pm (we should have been back at 4.00pm). What was a nice thought was that one of the boatyard staff had gone to the lock before the centre and got it ready for us, which saved us some time on getting back. The Boat Centre did not charge us for being back late due to the propeller problem. Our party was 4 adults, 2 children and a dog. When you divide the cost of the boat hire for the day between 6 people it works out very reasonable for a whole days experience! Everybody really enjoyed their day on the canals and would certainly use this Centre again.

Me and em went to Lee valley boat hire on 31st October. It was situated in a lovely little area that was nice and quiet with free parking opposite. It's a family run business and they are all really friendly. We got there when it opened at 10 and there was no one else there so no queuing. Hopped straight onto a 4 dearer electric boat and off we went. As we hummed along it was soo peaceful on the canal. We were the only boat on it and the water was like glass. Lots of ducks and geese following too. The canal eventually meets up With the Thames but you won't get that far as it takes hours apparently. We dropped our boat back and said our goodbyes and had a walk along the canal. There's a little cafe as you walk over the white bridge, turn right and it's just there. We grabbed a coffee and continued our walk for a few ours. When we got back we went to the crown public, just opposite where you collect your boat. So we walked over the canal and had some lunch outside. All in all, a lovely day out and would really recommend. Plus the weather was great!

We hired a narrow boat for the day and it was great fun. Everyone had a go at steering, we are now masters of the lock and all 8 of us found it tricky to give the boat back. Great experience.

Hired Mr.Toad boat for the day and we had a really lovely time. The staff were brillant, explained what we needed to do and all the safety points. Fortunately the weather was kind and we thoroughly enjoyed our picnic lunch on the river. Would highly recommend.

We have been here several times and love it. Friendly staff, good value, boats clean and well maintained. The only negative would be it would be nice to be able to take small dogs on the boats as it is in a dog walking area.

We went for a walk along the river and returned the next day with my daughter and son in law. It was a lovely sunny day and we took one of the boats out for an hour. The boat was really c lean and dry and the seats comfortable. We set off with me steering and after 20 mins changed drivers, we changed once more but my partner refused to take her turn as she was enjoying laughing at our efforts to three point turn a boat and just loved the whole experience, at 19 pound for the hour for four people it was great value. We talked to fishermen, argued about how we would redecorate some of the pretty houses and watched ducks and the other boats going by. With a prettypub opposite and a big car psrk, all in all great experience.

I went with my wife yesterday to hire a canoe. It is such a lovely location, plenty of parking space too. The staff were just brilliant. Maybe seeing we are both pensioners, were a little more attentive but I reckon they are probably just as courteous with everyone. The canoe was in good condition, we were fitted out with life jackets, given a map, a padlock for any stop offs at a pub and off we went. Our energy levels waned after 2 hours and we returned to the marina. The staff suggested we had a rest and returned a little later because the hire had a remaining two hours. That was such a welcome suggestion in this day & age of couldn't care less attitudes. We shall be returning here with our grandchildren for other boat hires. I would hire the canoe again but for only 2 hours. However, at present it is only available for half day hires. Thanks to all for a lovely, memorable afternoon.

From pedalos, row boats, electric boats to day hire narrow boats there is something for all budgets / ages. We went as a group of 13 and they were more than accommodating, Gets very busy and you have to expect up to an hours wait on sunny days. All boats require a £20 cash deposit which you get when the boat key is returned. They could do with a few more seats in the waiting area as 4 benches arent enough when you have 40+ people waiting,

A day out with our 21 and 23 year old We arrived and were greeted by really friendly staff at the ticket booth and those manning the boats.Took out 2 rowing boats at first, (cash deposits required) were out for about 50 minutes - hard work, but good fun, and not too busy when we went (11am)we then changed over to a motor boat which was even more fun, as it is so difficult initially to get the hang of it, as it doesn't respond like a car when you turn the wheel, it responds after a few seconds, so you end up oversteering- so a few boats really struggling to get the hang of it! but it is a lovely part of the river and not too busy when we went so we were ok! The staff were so lovely and friendly and was great value for money will be back !

From pedalos, row boats, electric boats to day hire narrow boats there is something for all budgets. Be prepared to pay a deposit which gets given back as soon as u return yr vessel. It does get busy when the weather is hot. The nice thing is the location, you can get a greasy spoon type snack (no so greasy tho!) over the pedestrian bridge, walk along the towpath, walk along the wooden walkway and see wildlife ( we saw a newt) or you can chill in the pub and have a nice bite to eat.Great spots for picnics where the lido used to be. Kids love steering the boats (yep even teenagers!)

We when to Broxbourne on a whim and took the one hour cruse along the river out of curiosity and because we had never been there before. The cost was £6 per adult for an hour cruise that goes both up and downstream as a steady but relaxed pace. The seating is basic but the boat gives views of the river that you don't get from the tow-path which is the route we normally take.We do plan to go again with the three grandchildren - all toddlers - at some point.Hopefully they will enjoy, but the youngster of the same age started playing with his toys after 20 minutes so maybe children need to be a bit older to make the most of the journey.Definitely recommended and the price is not too high, but it might be best choosing a fine day and doing when children are at the right age to get the most out of it.
