The sculptor has sculpted himself and his son, but his son has been given the same dimensions as the father. Interesting to see how a child's body has different proportions compared to an adult.

The Father and Son sculpture in Tartu is interesting, to say the least. I am not an art critique, so I am sure those that are professionals in that arena would have much to decipher and enjoy from this odd piece. I hope that they can at least explain why they made the "boy", who is obviously not much more than a toddler, so BIG??! I definitely prefer the Kissing Students!

A great idea, and the most distinctive example of public statuary in the city. Well worth returning to.

While you are walking in the centre of the small but cute city of Tartu, you can meet this couple of serious persons,a son hand in hand with his father :)

This statue of father and son is a bit bizarre. The baby boy is bigger than the father, it's a sculpture to think about. It might be a bit provoking for some, but then so many statues might be provoking.

You never think about how the proportions of the human body change with age. It's brought home by this clever, thought-provoking sculpture of a father and his very young son. Though different in size in reality, in this work of art, they are depicted as being of equal height. We sought it out intentionally on our walk around Tartu and were glad we did.

This is one you won't forget. Definitely worth a visit. Destined to become a classic. It juxtaposes the dimensions of adults and children and exposes their vulnerability. It will keep you thinking for years after you leave.

This is one of the oddest statues I have ever seen. Even the locals that we were visiting with didn't really understand it. It is pretty easy to understand what is the meaning behind it, at least to me, but very odd.

I was quite amazed of Tartu City Government’s brave decision to exhibit this controversial sculpture in the middle of the town. I do like this sculpture a lot. Most of the well-known sculptures at Tartu are classical as for famous scientist K.E. von Baer or general B. de Tolly – nice sculptures indeed, but very traditional.Ülo Õun was one of the most unique Estonian sculptors who died at the age of 48. The idea of this sculpture is interesting too – Õun portrayed himself and his son. The idea of the sculpture is the next generation is over previous generation. As citizen of Tartu I have passed this sculpture hundreds of times. I have seen only two types of reactions: people who like this sculpture and other who are not…

Perhaps the ugliest statue in the world. It is grotesque and repelling. Perhaps it is just me - but I really get shivers when passing this.
