This beautiful building houses much interesting art. Although much from Middle Ages and onwards, they also have some interesting contemporary art. My favourite was van Gog's cows which he based on an older painting from another painter, which painting they cleverly hung next to it.

7 Euros per head is quite steep compared to the collection on display. Have been to better museums than this. Really liked the 19th century sculptures compared to all other art on display. Good for a one time visit. Apparently free to visit every first sunday of the month

A nice museum with good exhibitions. Especially the audiotour is nice. I loved the details they give you on the paintings. Lovely works of Rubens, Brueghel, etc....

For a wet February morning in Lille, this was the ideal place to go. Fascinating collections of art, porcelain and sculpture covering a host of different eras, from 15th century religious paintings to works by Monet, Renoir and Picasso, as well as a number of Rodin sculptures. I was particularly impressed with the number of art students who were allowed to sit on the floor of the galleries and study the techniques of the masters.

Seeing Rubens, Van Dyck et al can only be a moving experience, but somehow the place didn't quite do it for us. The spacious entrance hall is beautiful, and too much signage would spoil; it, but it took a few minutes to work out where the cash desk was, and the person who gave us our tickets was a bit ponderous and not as welcoming as we might have expected. The information desk didn't exude warmth either. But all this fades into the background against the magnificent buildings and its contents. A special exhibition had just finished so parts of the building were inaccessible, but as ever in large museums and galleries, the human brain (or ours at least) gets full after a couple of hours. A trip to the basement was worth it, for the sculpture in particular, but even more so for the vaulted brick arches that were interestingly lit and really atmospheric. It;s a pity that the same attention to lighting was not given to the old masters, where reflections made getting a good view a matter of considerable shuffling about. It is a vert tall gallery too, and some of the works were hung too high for a proper or comfortable look. But I wouldn't have missed it, and will visit again when I next find myself in Lille. And even if you never go in: at night it's illumination is wonderful, especially with the moon behind it.

We did a guide visit at the exhibition about egypt. It was very interesting! The building is very nice and they have a nice art collection. Definitely reccomended!

The 20th century has limited representation , but there are two very good Picassos. There is lot of religious work ( by Rubens and others) and a beautiful still life by Chardin. Current temporary show is of an Egyptian Pharaoh and is well presented but hard going if you are limited in your knowledge.

This museum does not receive the credit which it deserves. An exceptional collection of varied interests , with something for all.

We got in for free as it turns out that the permanent exhibitions are free for everyone on the first sunday of each month. Bargain!Spent an hour or so wandering the halls (also to get out of the cold). But a good selection of art in there. Worth a look!

Great museum, interesting collection, beautiful building, loved the miniatures of the 10 cities in the cellar.

The museum is so beautiful and the location is a must to take a picture place. The square where the museum is also beautiful and a point of meeting the young student people who live in Lille. Around you can find restaurants supermarkets and pharmacies etc.

Really good mixed museum. Free audio unit, free cloakroom and half price entrance with Eurostar ticket.

This is a very worthwhile provincial museum to visit, with substantial collections of fine arts and other attractions. However some rooms are closed which is annoying and the museum maps are out-of-date.

fascinated by lots of walks. Lille by boat, in the park. The old town with cobbled pavements, art quarter, lots of welcoming restaurants with bistros. Disliked too many beggars everywhere. It spoiled the charm and beauty of this attractive city.

This is probably the most well-known tourist attraction in Lille. It is said to be the second or third biggest fine art museum in France. However, the museum is not so big, the collection is not abundant nor wide-range, and the streamline of the flow is a bit weird. Maybe they're undergoing some reconstruction of the layout or what I don't know, but it's a bid disturbing. Still, I enjoyed the museum a lot.
