the collection of daum glass is stunning, going from the glassware of the late 19th to the crystal of the early 20th-- in a remarkable setting...the excavated fortifications of medieval Nancy

In the basement of this fine palace on the Stanislas square is a unique (and large) collection of glassware by Daum - the highlights being the early work from the late 1800's though to the end of the First World War. Each cabinet is better than the one before and the combination of the dark of the rooms, the clever lighting and the brilliant colors of the glass combine like a jewel box. The ground floor has an engaging collection of 20c French painting with the accent on realism; upstairs holds earlier French and other European work of lesser interest.

The Musee des Beaux-Arts in Nancy is by far, hands down, our favourite fine arts museum in France (and we've seen quite a few of them). The arrangement of the museum starts with modern and contemporary, working its way back chronologically as one ascends the levels. This backwards presentation is a refreshing change from the other museums for one, as I always get so overloaded by religious medieval art that I can't properly enjoy everything else past the Impressionist period.Secondly, the size of the tableaux in this museum's collection are immense! I just love the sheer scale; it makes the art much more breath-taking and impressive. Finally, the museum itself is a piece of art, with its beautiful architecture that plays with curves and angles, light, and design.Definitely a must-see in Nancy.

A grand collection awaits at the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. We spent almost two hours and didn't make it to every collection. Don't miss the ruins of the original citadel in the basement!

This Museum is a very nice surprise. Its internal lay out is modern and attractive and it hosts a remarkable collection of paintings beginning in the XIVth century through the impressionists and contemporary art. This rich and well presented museum matches the opulence and taste of any european capital city.

Good collection with a few Impressionist pieces. Well balanced. Easy to move through in an hour to an hour and a half.

I jumped off the train for an afternoon in Nancy. After finding out the train station had no lockers, I was delighted to find the Musee has plenty and don' t mind you leaving your luggage while you have an excellent lunch in Stanislas Square. Then devote several hours to the excellent collection, including Monets, Manets and Rodins which you can contemplate up close for as long as you like.

A very spacious gallery, with a lovely diversity of collections to appeal to many tastes. Be sure to look for works by Emile Friant in the contemporary wing; his faces are incredible!

A very wide collection of paintings from different periods - many by French painters that I had never heard of but will look out for now.

Spacious 4 floors of exhibits. Especially enjoyed Cortot's work and the Daum glassware and vase exhibit.

One of our principles is to visit at all costs a museum with a Bonnard painting in it's collection. Bonnard is the Mozart of the painters, you may not like everything, but the work always makes one realise that one is a human being and not a dog. Again, we were not dissapointed. The museum has an extreme rich collection. It mellowed our mind and gave us a renewed lust for life. ( which is the reason for visiting museums) and the Bonnard painting lived up to it's expectations. As ever!

A little jewel of a museum, on Place Stanislas, another jewel. Take two hours to wander around the museum, and then wander outside to marvel at it's setting. I only intended to spend an hour inside, but extended it to 2+. Highly recommended!

Great museum with an extensive collection of works of art over several centuries and from artist from different European countries. Also a beautiful collection of Daum cristallery.

This museum has a bit of everything and apart from the Daum collection there is not much that sticks out. The huge Rubens is spectacular and the so-called Caravaggio, well, make up your own mind on that one. The 19th and 20th century paintings section had some good works but hung in a rather chaotic way. The best part of this museum is tucked away in a basement (!) and that is the Daum collection that is well displayed and lit and a joy to look at.

This is a good art gallery with some really interesting local artists as well as more famous works. Shame that the man selling the tickets on our visit was so rude! Not many rude people in Nancy - but he was an exception.
