We have decided that this is "our" tower and we are so proud to be part of the community it's in. It's a lovely design, and fun to climb and see the surrounding area. It's definitely not the tallest tower you'll find in Italy, but it's an important part of Modena's personality.

We climbed the tower to the top and we had a delighted view over Modena. Some information boards made us to understand the history of the tower.

This tower, adjacent to the Cathedral, is Modena's symbol. It's 87m high & made of white marble.Since 1997 it's declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.It has been restored till the end of 2011 & if you climb the stairs inside you can get a birds eye view of the red roofs of the city.

Unfortunately it is not always possible to climb up to the top.If it is opened it is worth to go and have a look at the city from the top.

This is a leaning tower. Worth a visit if in Modena. We had good views of old town from the top. Would recommend .

The Ghirlandina is Modena's equivalent of the tower of Pisa. It's the campanary and the bells sound could be heard from everywwhere on the city centre.Nice to take a picture.

This tower and history. When the Jewish had to leave Spain due to the very catholic king, the pope in Italy accepted them in Italy. The Jewish were brining knowledge of the medicine and other important information. This white tour remembers the tower in Sevilla but since it is smaller the name has been adapted to Ghirlandina.Great monument.

We climbed this tower when we went to Modena partly for some exercise, but mainly to see the view from above. The stairs were sturdy and easy to climb, with handrails all the way from top to bottom, so even people who aren't massively steady on their feet shouldn't struggle too much (although obviously the ascent can be tiring). The views were lovely and well worth the two or three euros we paid to climb it.

It is very nice white tower at Piazza Grande. It is one of trade marks of Modena. There is very comfortable cafe with view to Ghirlandina tower.

Magnificent Tower in Modena constructed from white stone on Piazza Grande. It is certainly one of the trade marks of Modena. It is currently under reconstruction but its beauty is still there.

In the heart of the town, visible from all the surroundings, this beautiful tower stands besides the Duomo

Well if your a fan of F1 or ferrari do the combo trip and get your camera at the ready, simply amazing experience. If you do the combo be warned there is a transfer fee not included if you use the third party mini bus. We personally drove as you can park for free at the Maranello museum anyway.

this is the original Middle Age building of the Municipality of Modena. The top of the tower is the called "Ghirlandina" because of its shape resembling to a "ghirlanda". The suffix "-ina" in Italian language indicates the little thing. there are guided tours inside the meeting rooms of the Town Hall: many rooms have frescoes on the ceilings describing mythological stories or facts of the Middle Age in Modena (the battle of Zappolino against the ierce enemies of Reggio EMilia city). Please insist to see the Acetaia, that is a room at the top of the building where the Town Hall administration prepares the long-awaited (from 5 until 30 years) aromatic vinegar of Modena. Have you ever seen the "Aceto basamico" the vinegar you buy in the supermarket. Well, that is the industrial one for the supermarket, but here they produce the original one on the basis of an ancient method of production (passing the vinegar from wooden box to wooden box) .Very nice is the marble plate at the entrance of the building remembering General Montecuccoli (the hero of Vienna during the siege of the Turks) and the oppressive Austrian domination of Modena and Italy hampering the indepent creation of an unified Italian State.

There's something of Modena that all the tourists must learn. It's a word, it isn't difficult, and it's one of the most peculiar word in Modena. In Spain you learn Paella, In Germany October Fest, in France you learn Pan au Chocolat, in Modena, before tortellini and Ferrari, you have to learn Ghirlandeina, in the while also Pavarotti. Why Ghirlandeina? Because is one of the symbol of Modena.Do you want an example?Ok, try to stop someone, man or woman doesn't make differences, and ask him/her"Sorry Sir/Mam, where's the Ghirlandina?"Of course you'll receive your answer but the first things you'll hear will be"The Ghirlandeina is...." Jokes a part, this tower is something of really important for the Modenesi.Go for it and admire it, drinking an espresso maybe!

The tower is very nice and has been recently restored. The only drawback is that part of the cathedral exterior wall is covered because is under cleaning and consolidation: but this is the only way you can see it nice and clean for more and more years.
