Simply the best place in Liguria for people who love hike!!! Beautiful paths, all well maintained, a big biodiversity, a unique place that you can visit every month of the year!!!

For the first day of 2015 the number of bus and boats santamargerita were limited. The transportation was very crowded and the road was pretty busy. The restaurants were out of food early in the day. The governors should think of better organizations for festive days! Anyway Portofino was very very beatiful in a sunny winter day like spring.

This was a highlight - great scenery and views... There is a photo opportunity at every bend. We stayed in Santa Margherita and drove to Portofina and parked...

Porto Fino is a must visit place if you are traveling to the North of Italy. There is a great restaurant by the water with a gorgeous view. You can stay in Rapallo and do day trips to Porto Fino

Very nice to walk around, small but precious, just walk and enjoy brilliant sceneries. There are perfect photo spots on the path towards the castle.

My husband and I arrived in Portofino after three days in the madness of Venice and was the best thing we did ... we found peace in Portofino! The city is super charming and romantic. We stayed at Hotel Domina Home Piccolo, also very beautiful, charming and with a great location, with an easy walking access to the city center. For me, the best thing of Portofino, is that there is no ostentation of the regulars, unlike Capri ... as a resident of Portofino said, Capri is for anyone who wants to glow, see and be seen, and Portofino is for those who appreciate discretion.

It looks like a paradise. The atmosphere is like "La dolce vita italiana". If you go to the top, near the castle, the view is astonishing!

Bit overpriced for my liking, check ferries, ours was cancelled at last moment so had to get very bus back

We took a 5 km hike in beautiful weather from St Margherita Ligure to Portofino. Some walking by the road without a sidewalk which was uncomfortable. Soon we took the Panoramic Trail which was dry and with handrails all along the way which could be steep. Not for the movement impaired, but you don't need olympic endurance to make the tour. Our reward was Portofino and a wonderful lunch of pasta with frutti de mare with an exquisitely subtle herb and tomato sauce. And cold drinks of course. The local boat went every hour and was inexpensive for our trip back.

We walked from the far side of Santa Margherita Ligure, so it took us a far bit longer that anticipated. Saying that we strolled along gently,e njoying the beauful views and beach spots. We stopped halfway (ish) in a place called Capo Nord for a drink, which is a lovely little cafe/diner right on the cliff edge by the sea (highly recommended). The walk up into the woods just after Paraggi (follow sign that says recommended route) was lovely, with some very picturesque views when the tree line broke. I think Portofino itself, although very pretty is expensive and aloof, compared to Santa Margherita. And it is full of boats loads of tourists. The church at the top of the hill is spectacular as is the people watching. We took the ferry home €6 each one way (the last one leaves at 7pm - might because it was end of season, but we felt it was too early if you want to eat) And took some lovely shots of the town. Definitely worth the walk and a very pleasent way to spend a day.

Color of water, greenery and calm tourist city are marvelous. Few parking places, need to arrive there by car early!!!More fascinating place than Chinque Terre

If you enjoy seeing the world on foot this walk is a must. I did the section from the Portofino port to the Santa margerita beaches about 45 minutes each way. So interesting how they suspend the walk path over the cliffs as you approach Santa margerita. The earlier the better for the heat. Your path is protected from the traffic but less notice in the early morning.

not for the faint of heart these hiking paths can be very treacherous so come with sturdy shoes and plenty of water. But you will be rewarded with stunning views!

Our first plan was to hike from Portofino to San Fruttoso and then from there to Camogli. Unfortunately we finished our hiking in San Fruttoso and we took a ferry to Camogli. It was too hot and a bit too tiring to hike all this way. And also we had too less drink water, and water in San Fruttoso is horribly expensive! :ODespite all that, I enjoyed this hike very much. The first 20mins of it are terrible - very steep and tiring kind of stairs. But then when you reach the top, you get this satisfaction that you managed :) And from the top you can start enjoying beautiful views and all the nature around. The best feeling though is when you reach San Fruttoso - tiny, pretty village just at the seaside with small beach and clean, blue water. You can refresh your tired body in the warm sea water. Amazing :)

The area is a very beautiful one but heed the advice of the last reviewer, the walk from Portofino to San Fruttuoso is much more difficult than some guide books suggest. It is well sign posted but very steep in places, rocky and rough. We saw someone being airlifted to hospital with a suspected broken ankle and were not in the least surprised. Beautiful if fit and well equipped, otherwise be careful or take the boat, which we will do next time.
