Museum contains items from the Cathedral and its treasury. Nothing particularly stunning about the collection itself, but the presentation is very well done, allowing visitors to get close to stained glass, gargoyles, and religious statuary.

Many of the statues and gargoyles were removed from the cathedral as the sandstone wears away. In this museum you can see them up close. The museum is well designed so you can see them from below, at the same level, and above. Also, the medieval stained glass is amazing. If you're in a hurry, you can see most of the museum in an hour, though you can easily spend more time here!

This is the best museum i visited at Freiburg. The ticket is not expensive and you have a discount if you are a student even a european one. I saw amazing sculptures and paiting and sat there staring at them and their story. At the end of the big hall you may find an amazing instrument-piano where you can sit an listen to 3 song that were played with it in a specially designed machine. All decriptions were in English.

My wife and I very much enjoyed the exhibits at the Augustinermuseum. Their collection of religious art from the Black Forest region was the best I have ever seen. The audio tour is very informative, and allows you to move through the exhibits at your own pace.

If you can find this exhibit, it's a fantastic exploration of the building techniques, the architects and tools used to build Das Freiburger Muenster. It was so well arranged and the labeling did not overwhelm us with too many details.

An interesting modern museum. Considering the things showed, the entry ticket it's a little bit expensive.

This is a hidden gem in the middle of the alt stadt. It is worth the price of admission and if you take your time to view all the details of the very unique pieces (like Jesus on the cross from the 11C with feet side by side) you will need 3-4 hours. We had the good fortune of also seeing a special exhibition on the Münster's construction and restoration throughout the years - fascinating! Don't use the flash with pictures (most people don't understand the damage the flash can do to the artwork and relics) and enjoy. There are lockers so you can leave heavy items behind. A cafe is also located in the museum. You get a day pass for this and five others in the area - all very much worth it although most of the time is spent inside this museum.

The museum houses statues, gargoyles and other stonework from the nearby Munster in order to prevent them from exposure and damage. It is all quite beautifully displayed, allowing the visitor to view these superbly crafted artefacts at close quarters - something you could never do when they were in situ.

This is a little gem of a museum. Newly designed, it brings a very fresh and modern approach to displaying church relics. The architecture alone is worth the visit. Be sure and go all the way up to the top level to see the gargoyles from above, then down to the basement for the 'hands-on' display of how the artisans created these works. And the courtyard cafe is a lovely little oasis as well - great stop for coffee and pastries.

The gargoyles are pretty fantastic, as are some of the other relics. But for a non-Catholic I found it to be a bit boring and stuffy overall.

This place holds some of the original statues and gargoyles from the Munster that are weathered and can't be repaired. Also a great explanation about how craftsmen went about their work in building the Munster. Some art work and gold/silver pieces from monasteries and churches around the region too.

If you like history and churches then this is the museum for you. Lots of gargoyles and historic religious exhibitions. Be sure to check out the huge pipe organ, although it is not operational sadly.

This is one of those nice little museums that is just the right size for spending an hour or so. Close up views of some of the sculptures from the Muenster and a few interesting art works.

The centre of historic Freiburg is dominated by the gothic munster, which was not at all to my taste. I found it depressing and creepy but several of the stone carvings from the steeple have been replaced whilst the old guys find their final resting place in this amazing museum. Hats off to the architect who designed this place, it is just breathtaking.
