This is a must-see for all visitors to Triberg. The wood-carved conference room in the Town Hall (Holzgeschnitzter Rathaussaal) is not only beautiful, but portrays the spirit and life of the Black Forest, the natural environment, animals, the life of the people and their culture. It was carved from spruce wood in 1926 by Karl Josef Furtwaengler, known as "Scnitzersepp", a native Triberg artist. You could walk in, look round for five minutes and walk out again (entry is free), but take the time to read the small pamphlet on offer and find the features it describes: the animal frieze, the tradesmen of the town, the clock industry, the waterfalls, Adam and Eve in the wedding section (this room is used for weddings), the Mayor and town councillors... This is a work of art which rewards close study with delightful details. The conference room is normally open Monday to Friday 9 - 12, and Monday to Thursday 2 - 4, but may be closed for weddings, conferences and receptions.
