As another reviewer mentioned, Schloss Augustusberg is also called Schloss Bruhel. Just to mention about parking because it isn't very clear on the information, there is a parking area for both the Schloss and the Max Ernst museum right next to the Schloss park area, just follow the signs. Also if you want to see both, buy the combi-ticket.I would definitely recommend going to see Falkenlust if you have the time becuase it also has some very interesting chinoiserie style rooms. You will be asked to wear some huge shoes covers which makes you slide around the stone and wooden floors as look around the house. Falkenlust is around 2.5kms away, which is a 30 min walk or a 10 minute drive on paved roads.

Schloss Bruehl and Schloss Augustusburg are the same thing!!! If you compare addresses - there's only a different street name, all the rest is the same! Please do something and join them together, preferably under Schloss Augustusburg, as it is named on the Unesco site!

The Augustusburg palace and nearby Falkenlust hunting lodge are masterpieces of roccoco decor. We have been to many, many castles in Germany and this has to be one of the best. This is a popular attraction, so it is best to be there when the doors open at 10am, especially if visting on a weekend. Plan on spending at least 2-3 hours to visit Augustusburg, the palace gardens and the nearby Falkenlust hunting lodge.

Just a 15 minute train ride outside of Cologne, this place is a GEM--go on a pretty day (closed Mondays, though) to enjoy the beautiful palace and hunting lodge, good tour guides (good audio guides too if you're not so hip to the German) and great grounds for picnicking and wandering.

Satisfying tourist stop in one hour guided tour. Learned a lot about history of the Bishops and how the developed the region. Beautiful castle with quirky stories. Nice also to walk around Bruhl and visit nearby Max Ernst Museum.

Very impressive place, one of the best palaces in Germany.

We visted here as I had been to this palace while an exchange student neaby in 1978 and enjoyed it. It was the palace of the local archbishop, built in the 1700s. It later served as host for German State dinners during the time the German capital was in nearby Bonn. The Baroque architecture of the palace is amazing. There is an hourly tour in German, but English speakers may rent an audio guide in English which is fairly comprehensive, giving a guide to each room as well as the history if the building along the way. Photography inside is not permitted. You are required to wear felt shoes (provided as part of the admission) over your own shoes to protect the floors. This is a UNESCO World Heratage site. There are extensive grardens surrounding the Palace and a 15 min walk will bring you to the hunting lodge (or Falkenlust) which is also worth a visit (spearate admission). Note: we did not visit the hunting lodge on this trip. Food is available at the nearby train station by the parking lot.
