I visit after tour of Ephesus and it makes sense after that. Because you see many statues taken from Ephesus ancient site, so you see the missing parts of the puzzle in the Museum.

A rare ancient museum consist of both open air and closed parts. Aside by the basilica of St.John displays items from the Myken, temple of Artemis, city of Ephesus, early Christianity, Archaic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods. Many found before World War I were taken to the Vienna Museum, but most were returned after World War II.

Pay the seven euros or whatever and go through the excavations being conducted by an Austrian group uncovering he several large luxurious homes on the hillside between the upper and lower parts of the city. It is a rare chance you get to see some Roman era mosaics and frescoes. The Turks built a fantastic walkway for the site using thick plexiglass see through platforms and attractive chromed handrails.

We were on a Mediterranean cruise and one of the ports of call was Izimir and we bussed it from Izimir to Ephesus. Beautiful scenery all the way and we stopped half way for light refreshments including fresh pomegranate juice. When we got to Ephesus it was simply amazing -whether you are into history or not. Even though it is a ruin the sophistication of the architecture is impressive from the two story multi columned library to the awsome amphitheater. Photo ops everywhere.

As you approach Ephesus from the lower road you start to see the ruins of the Seven Sisters and then main Amphitheater of Ephesus itself. The size is amazing and when you realise only 12% of the city has been uncovered to date its awe inspiring. I have visited it 3 times already and to really take in all of the wonders you need a full day. The buildings in the market square or the remains what are still standing are wonderful. Stand and close your eyes and you are back in those days. The structure that is still covered has a wonderful collection of ancient houses with many walls decorated with the remains of mosaics. You pay a litttle extra to go inside that part but its worth it and well presented. Its an hours worth all by itself. If you visit in the heat of the summer take hats and a shade and plenty of water as the main street is very hot and little or no shade. In the amphitheater get some on e to stand on teh stage and then climb to the upper tiers and you can hear what they are saying even if they whisper

Overwhelming to see really old artefacts. It was particularly interesting to see items from the Pagan, Greek and Roman eras.

We felt like the museum is well kept, and most pieces and artifacts on exhibit had dated tags with a brief description. Although the timeline was mixed around, some items in the beginning of the visit were from a later period, and other items didn't have a plaque at all, it was really beautiful seeing all those pieces being preserved and well kept. What surprised me was seeing artifacts from the 4th century BC (that's right, Before Christ) such as crosses and crucifixes with images of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary engraved on them.

I would highly recommend spending a few hours here soaking up the atmosphere and wonder of this ancient city

I visited back in 2007 and loved it, going again was just as good. This time we visited the terrace houses as well which I really enjoyed. We walked through the mandarin orchards to the top gate and then wandered back down the hill through the amazing old streets. We missed the last dolmus back to town but we shared a cab with another couple for 20tl.

I like everything that used to be the great history of this place. I was amazed of the people of this land who created the civilization to mankind.

Ephesus is a great place to visit, the history behind it is fascinating and to get to stand in the city that has existed for thousands of years is priceless but one thing I would suggest is too avoid peak season because it ruins the entire experience, too many tourists, you can't take a decent photo and it is unbearably hot.

Considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, Ephesus' Temple of Artemis was dedicated to the goddess of the hunt.

Loads of history and fantastic place to see!! give yourself good few hours to explore and do some research beforehand cos there is only limited information provided for visitors (unless u have a tour guide); Ephesus museum is not in Izmir the city, but in Izmir the province; so one needs to drive there from the city or purchase a tour
