There is a bit of climbing involved so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. A stunning view, especially before the sunset. The wine is really good as well, and the guides are fun to talk to. You can also purchase a bottle of wine inside (we went for a red wine which tasted like church wine) at the end of the tour. The visit is recommended to everyone - for groups of friends, business partners and couples. The place has got something to offer to each and every visitor.

We tasted some wines and seen wonderfull view of the town. The owner told us the history of Melnik and sugested places to visit. You can sit inside the cave - which is wonderfull in te summer or outside and enjoy the view.

For a few leva you can sample some local wines in a cellar dug into the side of the sandstone. The walk up the hill is worth it for the wine and the views, bring your camera so you can some pictures of the town below.

Melnik is very charming small town (the smallest town in Bulgaria). Traditional buildings surrounded by nature rock formations create a stunning place. Local wine cellar Shestaka is charming and great experience of small local wine procer. The winemaking has been traditional in Melnik. The wines are very special and have taste of history which reaches to Thracian times.. Really worth seeing Melnik. Ask for accommodation at Shestaka Wne Cellar house, very cosy place. Also dining out in Melnik has wonderful spirit. One of the best places to visit in Bulgaria, especially if you are a wine appreciation tourist..

The grapes in his wine are really authentic, but the Melnik's wine has a little bit strange taste and it probably will not be liked by everyone. Be very careful about Shestaka - I've heard he often offers you degustation from one barrel, and when you like it, he pours the wine in your bottle from completely different barrel.

Great view from the top of Melnik. Friendly staff. The wine was good as well as the food. I was pleased to visit this place.

In my oppinion the wine there has been always mixed with water. 6 years ago one of my friends was going to buy wine from there and when I tried it I told him not to do it. The guy was so angry to me that start shouting and I had to go out quickly so everybody was joking with me. But this is me I can't lie will tell you straight in the face. This year we went there with my husband and when I told the story to him he wanted to try it and accepted that I was right

Be ready for climbing some stairs if you want to get there faster (there is a sign when you walk up the road in the village). Great wine to drink in Bulgaria with the local cheese. There are some tables outside with the view of the village great for a late afternoon chill-out.Lots of info here: http://www.shestaka.com/en/index.html

Although small, this winery was well-worth tracking down. I tasted quite a few "local wines" during my visit - and I am not sure Merlot is truly a local wine. Some of the wine on offer is truly undrinkable, but this small, friendly winery serves up pretty good wines - red and white - made exclusively from local grapes at reasonable prices. We paid entry/wine tasting (BLG 4) and then ordered cheese, dried sausage and a glass of wine while we waited for our order of two bottles of red (one dry, one semi-dry, BLG 20 each) to take home. I would also recommend buying a jar of pine honey. There is plenty on sale as you walk around the town. Delicious.
