litle but very special , near you will find a FORT ( old portuguese building ) , a litle route for pedestrians arounde the sea , litles quiosques , and believe : the most security place in Rio de Janeiro ! you can go by car , there is a big park station !

A lovely neighbourhood with gorgeous houses, tiny beaches and a lovely sidewalk along the water. The views towards Corcovado and Rio are stunning at sunset! Great little bars and cafes, if you can get in.... most are bustling and busy. To think Urca was built from landfill is pretty remarkable.

came here after sugarloaf -- has a nice little beach, pretty tree lined streets and houses. went to Bar Urca for some beers and snacks. delicious.

On a nice day from Sugar Loaf, there are great photographs waiting to be taken! The tram cars can feel crowded but getting to the top is quick and well worth the trip.

Stroll by the bucolic streets of this almost "secret" Rio's neighborhood ,try to arrange,in advance, a visit to the Sao Joao fortress, it was there that the city was founded and in a short trekking, you can visit the old fortress, almost 400 years old

The best place to pop the question! :) A perfect place to watch the sunset! And just great to have a beer by the shore!

Urca is the relatively quite area where the Sugar Loaf ride begins and ends. It is traditionally a military housing area but today anyone can live there. It contains a military base and the Naval War School. There is nice beach (praia vermelha - Red Beach) on one end of Urca which is a short walk from the sugar loaf entrance and exit. If you have tome to walk over to it and sit on a bench and drink a coconut water I think you will enjoy yourself. The beach is probably not for swimming but for walking it is very nice.

Urca is a midway cable-car station and is reachable from Praia Vermelha enroute to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain. As such Urca is a midway view point.

The walk along the railing, to sit down and enjoy the sunset, to enjoy a beer and nibbles at bar Urca. What not to enjoy about the neighborhood? Don't go by car, you won't find a place to park. Take the bus or a cab. Go rambling Urca streets after you've been to Pão de Açucar. If it is saturday morning, there is a fruit and vegetable market there, not a big one (like the Ipanema ones), but you will see the locals shopping and will be able to sample pastel and caldo de cana (juice of sugar cane).

Urca is a very cute community and feels like a little fisher village in the middle of the hectic mayhem of Rio. There are some really nice restaurants and bars and one can swim at the small beach as well as hike up to the halfway point of the sugar loaf.

When you did Pao Azucar, just take a walk along the ocean to Urca to Bar Urca (approx 2 km walk) with beatiful views on Guanabara bay / Botafogo etc. Then take drinks at Bar Urca as your reward for the walk. ;-)

Great party mood with locals at take-out section of Bar Urca! Get a taxi from Sugar Loaf - it's fast!

We came down from Sugarloaf visit and literally walked into this hidden gem...We did not know what the place is called at the time but found it to be charming and quiet. There is a bay with the Corcovado view in the background. It was hard to believe this was in the bustling city of Rio. There seem some hotels in this area. Next time we visit Rio, we will try to find a place to stay in this area. A hidden gem!

This was a great area and made us feel like locals. We ate a late lunch here and looked out over the water. Really amazing sunset.

At the feet of sugar loaf, one of the quietests districts of Rio. I liked to see the houses and had a relaxed lunch there. nice.
