The drive up to Paluma is a fair drive north of the city toward Ingham. Well worth the day out. Good swimming areas on the way up tomPaluma. The water is icy cold, but very refreshing during the summer and is very popular during the weekend and school holidays. There is a couple of nice places at the township of Paluma

When the rainy season has been good and all the rivers are running -Lake Paluma is a must! Is really lovely for a cool refreshing swim on a hot and steamy weekend!

We take the trip up to Paluma often because it's a great drive, you can have a cool swim in the tumbling river, there plenty to explore up there, and best of all, it's a lot cooler :)

Nice swim spots, steep walks, and sight seeing. The dam is nice too and there are camp spots there. The roads seem well maintained. I think a few more bins around may help keep litter controlled. Obviously very popular with locals. There are toilets at different locations. I saw some seating but don't recall any BBQs

Booking is essential and difficult to get reception after leaving village. Road in not recommended for touring rigs and rightly so. We had 4x4, but with care 2 wheel drive is fine.Good fireplaces so take firewood. Gas barbecue in day area.A very peaceful campsite with wonderful birdlife. No motor boats. Swimming beautiful.

Lake Paluma is suited to both day trippers and people wanting to camp but only if you have a tent as there isn't many facilities for camper trailers. It is a pretty setting with the picnic tables and camping set around the edge of the lake. We only went for the day but was very pleasant.

There is a spectacular view from the rocks in front of the spillway of the water cascading down into the valley and if you're into camping there is a good camping site. However, ideally, the journey is best made in a 4 x 4 (although we went in a normal car) as there is a c.12km drive along an unmade road to get there. Apart fro the view from the spillway this is like any other reservoir with forest trail walks around it

Leave Townsville and drive north for the day winding your way into the wet tropical rain forests. At the top of the mountains, you will find a quaint little village that offers cooler weather, tropical walks and delicious meals.

I was impressed with the facilities here. They had flushing toilets, barbeques and parking areas. Also camp facilities.

Like the last reviewer, after a longish drive up the mount only to find the Lake Paluma road closed, and this was more than a week after the heavy rain! Would expect it open after that time. A simple folding open/closed sign at the bottom of the hill would save a lot of wasted time. This road through the rainforest and the lake are two of the highlights of the Townsville region, but access is so dodgy as to wether it is open or not. A lot of travellers would just put it in the to hard basket.

Beautiful outlook across the water. Camping near by and the facilities are very good. Go canoeing and see more of the area.

Beautiful lake in the rainforest. Wonderful birdlife and lots of small animals such as wallabies and possums.

After dr iving miles up to Paluma we discovered that the road to Lake Paluma was closed. Would have been handy to have this signposted a bit earlier in the drive
