Philip Shaw has converted an old barn into a modern and inspiring cellar door. The views from the veranda are lovely, and it is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon. The tasting was delivered at our table rather than up at the bar, which was a nice touch. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. Note that they do not serve food, but you do get some cheese and crackers as a palate cleanser during the tasting. Needless to say we all bought some bottles on the way out!

My wife and I visited this winery on the recommendation of some Orange locals. We are by no means wine connoisseur's in the slightest so were worried about being out of our depth. To our surprise the host was quite youthful and made us feel extremely welcome. We left the winery with a new found wealth of knowledge and an cask full of marvellous wines!

Seems like quite a youthful approach to winemaker. The new cellar door will no doubt grow a lot over the next 10 years or more. With orchards, kitchen garden , truffle oaks, forest all in the pipe line. And the wines are pretty good too! Well worth buying drinking and cellaring.

Currently under construction but still definitely worth a visit to taste their wines which are amazing. Friendly bunch as well :)

What a great experience. Great cellar door. Fantastic wine. Superb service. Loved it! After visiting a few wineries none came close to this one. Can't wait to return.

When we went there was another group already there and they were a bit too noisy for our taste but - hey! the visit should have been just about the wines. The vineyard was enormous and stretched over hillsides. They experiment and are innovative in their cultivation methods. The staff member who took us through the wine tasting was well informed. The surrounding countryside was superb and they have an excellent place to see it from.

Phillip Shaw has a cellar door that is more a kin to visiting a friend's place for a garden party. Inside there is a chance to sit at tables just opposite the "kitchen" area, out back you could imagine yourself in a Tuscan styled garden and in front you can enjoy the spectacular views out over the mountains. Such an inviting atmosphere call for relaxed tasting and the chance to linger longer. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a plate of sharp cheese with crackers to enhance the tasting experience. The wines cover all bases from budget to more refined. My husband believes they have the best Pinot Noir under $20 that he ever tasted and I was enchanted with The Dreamer Viognier. What ever your preferences in wine, this is the place to experience tasting as it should be, streets ahead of Hunter Valley "stand up and slosh down" experiences.

Brilliant wines; just divine ... the vineyard with the family home and cellar door perched on the top of a hill with views across the vineyards in the valley. A family concern indeed, you are welcomed into the family's home where a long bench table with bench seats is located right there in the kitchen/family area where the family go about their business whilst you are treated to a tasting of some of the Orange region's best wines; best in taste and best in value. Philip Shaw knows how to craft some of the most delicious wines you will ever savour. Very much worth the visit.

We aren't paritcularly wine enthusiasists, so please read this as an Orange experience, rather than a review of the wines, necessarily. We found Philip Shaw rated as a high and consistent maker of wines, and visited on a Saturday morning. A problem with Orange is that the GPS doesn't necessarily program easily for places just out of the town, and this inlcudes Philip Shaw. A winery trail map gives an approximate location, but isn't at all detailed, but nonetheless it isn't hard to find. There were only two staff at the cellar door, and one was attending a larger group. The staff left over to serve us provided a superb experience. You can choose to stand at the bar, sit at a long dining table, or like us, sit on a soft leather lounge and look out over the hills, paddocks, and vineyards on a blissful sunny day. There is a moderate selection of wines, with a premium "numbered" series, and a fresh and lower priced "architects" series. Where there is one variety in both styles you are invited to compare and contrast. I will let the real wine tasters critique the wines themselves, but as a day out this was a fantastic place to visit. Highly recommended.(And yes we did, like everyone else that afternoon, buy a mixed case...)
