I used to think the Barcelona market was the best in the world but I think Adelaide central eclipses it. Apart from the wide range of foods, you can just about get anything you may want, there is an interesting food court there.

Visiting Adelaide's Central Market was fun, more enjoyable to me than the hectic Melbourne Victoria Market. Adelaide's clearly separates the beautiful meats, fish, fruits, vegetables and other food products from the other kinds of goods. There is terrific variety, including interesting kinds of fish and meats. We were there ahead of Australia Day so they were doing a very brisk business in sausages and steaks/meats for the barbie. But the best? The Smelly Cheese Shop!

I visit the market weekly, and highly recommend visiting. My favourite fruit and veg is Michaels near Grote street end,and Lucias is a must for breakfast. You can easily spend the day, have lunch at Chinatown or one of the great restaurants in Gouger street. The market is open Tuesday through to Saturday however Wednesday not all is open so best to visit on one of the other days.

We went to see Chinatown as it was the start of the Lunar new year, but happened along the market. There was so much choice, fresh fruit and veg, cheese, deli meats, cakes and anything else you can think of.We were like kids in a lolly shop, it was difficult restraining ourselves, but as we were only in town for five days and staying in an apartment we had to be tough. We were there during the week (3 visits) and it was buzzing so it must have great atmosphere on the weekend.Worth a look, great people watching territory, I challenge you to go and not buy anything.

My wife and I visited the Central Market during the daytime on our first full day in Adelaide. The first thing to say is the Market is huge and one can spend many hours just in the food market alone with numerous stalls etc offering world wide food opportunities both as take away and also dining there. Fresh produce is in abundance, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. Also many Country themed offerings.Besides the food there is ample opportunity to shop for gifts, clothes, shoes to name but a few things. All in all a great experience with so much to see cannot understand anyone who does not see this as a great place to visit.

Good fresh fruit and veg market. lots of other food sold too. Just next to market is a great Chinese food hall where you can buy all kinds of great dishes for lunch. Eat in or take away. On a Saturday afternoon an hour or so before the market closes you can buy fruit and veg at knock down prices. It gets very busy at this time.

The Adelaide Central Market is certainly a good place to hang out on the weekends and squeeze through masses of visitors, if you like that. Otherwise it is just a OK food market.Opening times are not consistent. Seafood offers are limited and quite expensive. There are other places in town that are open 7 days and offer best quality for much lower prices.Fruit and veggies are abundant, though, but its absolutely unfunny to shop there. Often unfunny sometimes unfriendly sales people. Sorry to say, but i haven't met one single friendly Chinese sales person here ever.

Great market full of choices of fresh products, like fruit, veg, chocolate, nuts, cheese, coffee beans, meat and seafood. Prices are cheaper or reasonable compared to supermarkets. Very busy and bustling, great atmosphere too. The cakes are fantastic with a nice café latte.Parking: first 2 hrs is cheap at $2 an hour, but don't go over that, the 3rd hour will cost $9 and so on.

I often go to the market to get special food items that are hard to get and find the choices here are much better. The parking used to be most reasonable but the city council have decided to increase profits and charge like wounded bulls. They forget many people have travelled over an hour to get there so they're not keen to feel exploited. Its a great way to get gourmet fruit, veg, meat, fish, bread dips yoghurts sweets, plus asian produce altogether. Take a home trolly as your bags get heavy. There are honey supplies, natural creams and shampoos, vegan supplies, tea and coffee supplies, fabulous cheeses and continental stores and so much more, There are some great places to eat a snack, have a coffee break or have a meal and meet friends. My friends that live near visit there often.
