We travelled to Glencoe in December 2014. We visited the woolshed due to being personally interested in the Leake brothers and their household who settled in the district in the 19th century. Sadly the house and run is no longer there. Glencoe store staff were very friendly and explained to us where the location of the house would have been. However we knew the woolshed built at a later date was remaining. We got the key from the general store and were able to explore the building. It is a great piece of local history and certainly deserves to be preserved. Really enjoyed our time at the woolshed and would recommend a visit.

The Glencoe Woolshed is operated by the Nation Trust, and is on the outskirts of Glencoe which is 23 km NW of Mount Gambier. The keys are available at the Glencoe General Store, it is a self guided tour of the woolshed. Glencoe was once a major rural centre serviced by railway. The woolshed was built in 1863 from locally quarried limestone. It was never modernised with mechanical shearing devices. There are placards around the walls explaining about the history of farming in the area, the towns history and a little bit about the local aboriginal people. Some of the sheep pens hold items from the era including kitchen utensils. There are toilets outside, plus an area for picnicking.
