nice little village with a lot of retiring people returning to their roots. some roads are sloping so make sure you have comfortable shoes on and insect repellant

Barrouallie is reached along the Leeward Highway, the drive is spectacular cliff top views, hidden bays, flora and fauna, Barrouallie itself is a small village with all the facilities you would expect.

Barrouallie is famous for hunting pilot whales. It's a really big town. They dry and salt the flesh of the pilot whales and it turns back, hence the name black fish. They also cook the skin for a long time, Scripps. I know one woman here in Canada, her mother brings 5lb of frozen scripps for her because she loves it so much. Me I didn't care for it much. It was quite gamey and tough. I haven't cooked the blackfish yet which you apparently cook like salt cod, with onions and tomatoes after removing most of the salt. Salt cod isn't even native, but it is a staple in the national cuisine. Barrouallie is quite a big town but their blackfish andscripps are rarely traded outside of the town. I have never found them in any Kingstown market. I have seen pilot whales jumping from the ferry to Beqiua, but I have never found blackfish outside of Barrouallie

Barrouallie, is an excellent example of what a 'small town' island flavor is all about. With it's warm friendly atmosphere and quite suttle beach, you will feel as if, 'you have found paradise'. It is true, that it used to be a whaleing town, but still up to this day that is where the island's 'black fish' is from. It will invite you and captavate you, once you have visited the suttle town of Barrouallie.
