The best experience i had during my stay at Casa de la iguana in Livingston was definatly Reggae on the river. If you get the chance...do it!!! Money back guarantee. The wonderfull host Airek is an expert in the life on the river and can tell you all about the surroundings while you are zipping a cold beer in the floating livingroom while getting to know a lot of people. Besides the eduacational part you will enjoy the music, the drinks and a great vibe. One of the stops include The round house wich is a great hostel on the river hosted by Chris and Dany who welcome you and will give you the chance to drink some great tequilla before going on further stops such as a Maya villaga and the hot springs.I did the trip twice and looking forward to do it again.

My friends and I went out with the lovely Captain Airek on the Reggae when we were in Guatemala last year. It was a fabulous day! Kicking back in the sunshine and watching the spectacular scenery just drift by, swimming in the Rio Dulce, having a rum punch or two whilst listening to some great music...Can't recommend it enough!!!

The Casa de la Iguna in Livingston, Guatemala is a great hostel with flare. We went on a trip up the Rio Dulce on a pontoon boat, loaded down with cold beer and lunch, with flip-flops and swimsuits for daywear. What we got was a full day of scenery, culture, swimming, caving, hiking and sun. Eric, the driver/owner, was awesome and full of both personality and knowledge. We visited another great hostel upriver, went on a cave tour at a spot that also harbors a hot spring and natural sauna, weaved through mangroves and around lush jungle islands, and swam all day long. If you find yourself in Livingston (and I highly recommend it) drop into stay at Rusty's hostel (the Casa de la Iguana). And don't miss this sweet trip. A great relaxing day for any timeframe, on even the smallest budget .

This was the best tour I took while in Guatemala for 3 months !!! My friend and I planned on visiting Livingston, Guatemala for 2 days and ended up staying for 6 :) We loved it way too much. Reggae on the River was the highlight of our visit to Livingston and we talk about how great it was. We found out about this tour through la Casa de Iguana which was the hostel we had been staying at. The tour was everything we wanted and more! It includes a guided tour down the Rio Dulce, stopping at the Hot Springs, a waterfall, a visit to a small Mayan village, swimming, booze (which is extra), and plenty of new friends. And of course a great, energetic, and friendly caption, Airek !! I would recommend this to tour to anyone, as well as visiting the small town of Livingston, Guatemala.

I think this was the best boat tour I've ever been on, so much so I ended up going back a second time! The tour was arranged through Casa de La Iguana so was a great way to get to know the other guests in the hostel. Airek, the captain is great fun and knows loads about the area. There was an endless supply of rum and coke for people who signed up for the 'all you can drink' option, and rum punch and beer for everyone else. There was a great party atmosphere the whole day, but there's plenty to do for non-drinkers as well. All of the stops (waterfalls, caves, hot springs, a Mayan village and another hostel) were well worth the trip, and there were plenty of opportunities to swim in the beautiful Rio Dulce along the way too. Even if you've already seen the Rio Dulce on your way to Livingston, Reggae on The River is a great day out and you get the chance to properly spend time on the river and really experience it. I would definitely recommend anyone to do this trip!
