Many people trying to get the typical picture. Had a couple of b-boys putting on a show in front, was a very fun moment! You can definetly take some nice shots and hangout for a bit around this place, while deciding one of the many around museums to visit!

It really ties the museum quarter together nicely. Have been in a number of European cities, and feel that this one is really an effective space. And this was in winter, in summer it must be delightful.

There is no question that the 'I amsterdam' sign is the epicentre of this attraction. When we went, there were thongs of people on the sign and all around it too which made it difficult to take pictures. We even returned the following morning at 9.30 to see if it was any better and though it was, it still was not clear enough to take a decent shot of the sign. The surroundings are beautiful though.

Fantastic cultural area which is home to the Rijksmuseum and the IAMSTERDAM sign. We decided to jump off here to get the mandatory photo but we could barely see the sign with so many people crawling all over. The area also has an Ice bar as well as an ice rink so you could easily spend a good few hours here if you wanted.

To have some of the worlds greatest museums situated in one manageable are is town planning at it's best. It is just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the Central area, but still within a short tram ride of such as Dam square

Fantastic square in which you will find the much photographed 'I amsterdam' sign. Also home to three of amsterdam a top museums! Recommend spending a day here.

A nice place with a few bars/restaurants to hang out. Wasn't too sure what the artificially frozen pond was all about but it, I am sure makes topic of conversation. It does get busy here so if your trying to get a picture with the "IAmsterdam" sign, go in the evening when it quietens down. Note, drinks/food are more expensive in this area

You get the famous letters plus the fantastic architecture of the Rijksmuseum and if you turn around and walk to the Modern Art museum, you get to see why its called the bathtub !

I can't believe I almost forgot to visit these famous letters! We went around early afternoon (this was at the end of February) and there were tons of people there taking photos too. So yes, we got our photo, but with a bunch of other people in it too. Try going maybe early in the morning or late at night after the bars if you want a shot with just your friends on the letters. Also it's right next to the Van Gogh museum.. they had an ice skating rink up right behind it, and some pretty expensive food stands, not worth it in my opinion.

The location of the Museumplein is wonderful. A little out of town, away from the city centre, but that makes it even better. It's very clean, handy for the art galleries and a very safe part of Amsterdam.I've stayed twice now, in pretty much the same place and would not only consider staying in this area. It comes highly recommended!

Although it was chilly when we visited (in fact, they were busy drilling away at the ice on the temporary ice rink), it would be a lovely area to sit and rest after a few hours visiting the many museums in the area.
